He only chose not to go to Reading because he found the place way too intimidating

Meanwhile, Byrne has laughed-off any paper talk of him joining Championship side Brighton. He said: “The first I heard was a phone call from my wife who saw it mentioned in the evening paper on Tuesday night. I’ve heard nothing from them and sure there’d be no point in me going over there. For what? I’m still a Shels players and I’m looking forward to playing in Europe with Shels for a few seasons yet.

This was taken from a Palace fan in Ireland. Not sure where the quote is supposed to be from.

Friday night’s Tolka Park clash between table-toppers Cork and Shels, at which Kerr and Brighton boss Mark McGhee were interested spectators, saw Byrne and the Dubliners held scoreless — the 0-0 result is likely to see Shels play Intertoto Cup football next year, although a Derry league win and an FAI Cup win for Cork on December 4 would see Pat Fenlon’s side gain Uefa Cup entry.

He is a cousin of Robbie Keane, who holds Mr McGhee in high regard I believe.

indeed he does. has always been grateful for mcghees role at wolves and gave him a signed shirt after scoring the spectacular winner in the cup match last year.

Interview

Read the last paragraph of this interview with Byrne.

Not being funny, but when somebody has time left on their contract, you don't go spouting you want to join this club and that club, in case it blows up in your face. How many times have we seen that happen?

He will talk to us, no doubt about that, it's whether or not we can tempt him, but with the Falmer situation sorted, a 3-4 year contract now doesn't suddenly look so unappealing.

We should look at getting rid of a couple of the other strikers then. McPhee is the obvious one, and one other. Trolley perhaps?

Now how do you get rid of players that are under contract ?
The only way we can offload McPhee is for another club to sign him on a free transfer. Any suggestions ? He'd make little impact at Conference South Level now.
