Brighton Bus Strike Within 2 Weeks

Which section of the public would you choose to muck about by doing that?

The people who want two buses an hour at Ringmer? Or the folk who want two buses an hour at Uckfield, Crowborough and Tunbridge Wells?

And how would your solution deal with the delays to buses caused by traffic in Uckfield or running into Lewes?

I dont know. Im just saying if they know they cannot provide 4 buses an hour, why schedule them

today was proving my point. 15-20 people were at my bus stop after finishing work at 4. The bus was supposed to turn up at 4.14, it turned up at 4.28. 14 minutes late.

It was rammed, and didnt stop at the next few stops because they were crowded too as 2 lots of people were at the stop as it was so late

Maybe if they could run their services on time, they would have a leg to stand on - SAKE!!

How are they supposed to do that when the roads of B&H are clogged with private cars? OK, there's bus lanes, but they don't cover the important bits in the middle of town.

Sooner the congestion charge gets brought in as a tax on the selfish, the better.

Support your local buses

I would need to get 3 different buses to get to my work and to drive is 35mins to go by bus it worked out at 2 hours 20 mins

Support them yes if i lived in the city but coming in from outside it's just not that practical:nono:

I would if they ran on time, im all up for less cars on the road and use of public transport :)

and they are on strike because their pay rise is only between 4%-8% depending on their length of service. Isnt that high already??

It's a bit of a vicious circle, isn't it? Buses won't run on time because of too many cars, yet people who take the car to work won't catch a bus as they don't run on time and they'd be late!

I am a massive fan of Brighton & Hove buses. I buy savers online for £2.80 a pop. All day buses all over the place as far as Eastbourne if you want!
Granted I don't have to rely on them to get to work, but if I did, I would rather shell out for bus tickets than trains or parking. What a rip off they are.

Got a single train ticket from Burgess Hill back to Brighton the other week. I thought the bloke was joking when he said it was £4.70 for the 14 minute trip. Tonight I've got to get a tube from Victoria to St Pancras. £4.

Brighton Buses

For all the crap the drivers get from a small amount of the public, give them the 8%. Mind you nurses are getting that over three years, they have got a better union. Good luck to them!

I have recently been to SE Kent. The service there, by both bus or train is awful. Trust me, our local buses are fantastic.

Be glad you have a bus option.
One per hour to either Horsham or Guildford from here; return fare to Guildford (11miles) is about £6. Last buses also conveniently timed so you can't get home if you're commuting on from either town. If I used public transport to go the Withdean even on a Saturday afternoon then I'd be stranded in Horsham or face an 8 mile walk along the A281 deathtrap. Falmer will take an even longer.
Am still waiting for the free market to deliver.

It won't because the free market will only concentrate on what is profitable. The buses in the UK need to be nationalised as they are a vital service for the community.

... and I'm still struggling with mendoza's plan to improve the bus service between Lewes and Brighton.

Buses turn up rammed with passengers and there are loads more waiting at all the bus stops. And mendoza suggests that they REDUCE the service from 4 an hour to 3 an hour.

How will that help him get a seat?

I think they provide a good service (but then again, if a dog turd had Brighton and Hove printed on it i'd stick up for it)

my £1.70 takes me almost 8 miles

its a fairly good service in my view (generally anyway) obviously there are some hiccups and stuff, but you expect that really

£1.70 for a single IS expensive though, the last time i came down to brighton i was SHOCKED i was, seeing as i pay £1.80 for a DAY on newcastles excellent metro system
