Can he even qualify for a work permit?
Can he even qualify for a work permit?
No. And even if he did... its just not going to happen.
He is in Brighton because he is not good enough to be in LD Quito. He's not going to play for the first team.
He is not recalled, his loan deal ended.
Presumably the time he spent in Spain may have somehow solved that - we were in the EU then, so I think he could have transferred from one EU country to another. Just guessing, mind.
I think his contract's up in June anyway. Wonder why we bothered bringing him over here for six months really, unless he's going to suddenly blossom into a PL superstar - unlikely IMHO.
Revised list. Hopefully as the season pans out we'll see who qualifies and whether other players, like Cuccurella do enough to get selected.
Belgium - Trossard
Spain - Sanchez
Ecuador - Caciedo
Argentina - MacAllister
Yet to Qualify
Mali - Bissouma
Poland - Moder, Kozlowski, Karbownik
Japan - Mitoma
Potentials:
England - Webster
Switzerland - Zequiri
Colombia - Alzate
Turkey - Undav
- Cucurella is closer to Spain selection (ie he has two caps already) than Webster
Without a work permit Arce is not even allowed to train with us. So the fact the club have said he's initially going to link up with the U23's and go through a his own pre-season means he's got a work permit.
The spell in Spain would have no impact on him getting a work permit. It happened 3 years ago and he only made 3 apperances and as he isn't an EU national he wouldn't have qualified automatically for a UK work permit.
He's qualified for a work permit now because of his spell playing for LDU Quito and them having a decent Copa Libertadores, which under the rules adopted after Brexit is on an equal footing with the Champions League for points towards a permit.
He's here now because his loan with Quito expired and we can take a final look at him in this last 6 months of his contract now he's got a work permit. Then we can make a decision on what to do with him at the end of the season.
Won’t stare a thread on it but how is Sarmiento doing ?
Not sure on the criteria for your lists?
- Sarmiento should be listed with Caicedo, for Ecuador
- Cucurella is closer to Spain selection (ie he has two caps already) than Webster
- Alzate should be the same as Biss and the Poles - a regular pick for an unqualified nation.
- Switzerland have qualified already - just a case of whether Zeqiri edges into the squad (probably needs an injury or two)
Cucurella is a possibility, as he played for Spain in the Olympics, winning a gold medal.

Potentially Deniz Undav, if Turkey somehow get through really tough play-offs, against Portugal AND Italy.
