which of course is bollocks. If the last defender brings you down, he's the last man and sent off even though you still have to beat the keeper. If the keeper brings you down, so what if there is a defender covering, there need to be TWO covering for the keeper not to be sent off.

Burnley's commentators clearly don't know what they are talking about. You're right. It was a clear denial of a goal scoring opportunity, which means it deserved to be a red card. Whether there was cover in the middle is immaterial.
