I'm agreeing with pasty here. For me, it's precisely that.

What's the point of being really wanting to be in the top flight - or any division for that matter - knowing you're going to struggle? I'd like to see us consolidate, get stronger and be in a better position to make a good go of it when we're ready.

I would say £40m is a price well worth going down for. Look at West Brom, they took relegation twice in four years, were sensible with the money and now look established in the Prem. If you dont panic spend in a desperate attempt to go up and make sure you retain your best players then going up knowing you will struggle in fine for the long term development of the club.

That's the challenge I was referring to regarding 'stability' - keeping your best players when you go down. A player can stay at a relegated West Ham or West Brom because they know they've got the clout to bring 'big names' in to get them back up. We're not in that position yet.

Bearing in mind the quality of players Gus knows how to find, I'd say we won't need to 'panic spend' just yet - build carefully and (reasonably) patiently, I'd say.

The interesting thing I noted was that they have not won the opening three game ever. I seem to remember reading recently that we haven't done it since 1957, which leaves me thinking a draw i on the cards.

You never know though - who says we will definitely struggle? Some sides predicted to go straight back down have done incredible things and had many happy seasons in the Prem. Stoke and Reading are the first examples that spring to mind. Anyone who says they would rather see us 'consolidating' in the Championship than potentially winning at, say, Anfield or Old Trafford in a league fixture are mentalists
