BTW, you may be interested in mapmyrun.com - a FINE runners site that allows you to plan and time your runs amongst other things.

I've just been on a run that I now find is exactly 4.8 miles in length.
Another good one is Goodrunguide.com great for measuring a route.

Top man cheers for that. There is one in Tunbridge Wells in Feb I think so might book in that one.

Was gonna mention the Tunbridge Wells 1/2 as one to do. Also the Hastings 1/2 at the beginning of March is very good (if a little hilly). Always gets top marks in race ratings and you get a lovely horse brass at the end. Avoid Reading (dull, but very intimidating) and I've heard the Silverstone 1/2 is not worth the effort. Didn't get in to London, so doing Edinburgh at the end of May instead.

Cheers HT for your advice. I have a 24 week programme which I got off RW. I am scheduled for the 20 milers around Feb 09, seems unimaginable at the moment but I am determined to do it.

It's an interesting feat. At times you will wonder why you are doing it, and at times you will just find it just plain tedious....but it is worth it. The feeling you feel when you finish is pretty immense.

I did a 16 week programme but I had a reasonable base-fitness to begin with. I tended to stick to it in principle; I did all the long runs but shifted a number of the long ones which were scheduled for Sundays to Saturday or Monday to accommodate nights out. Consequently I missed a few of the shorter runs. All in all it worked and the day went well.

My long runs are Sundays. Doing 2 3-5 mile runs duiring the week at the moment. I will have to take my ipod with me once the 10 mile schedule begins. I am so looking forwrd to the Marathon so will try and enjoy the training as well. Just have to knock the booze on the head nearer time !!!:drink::drink:

how did we do?

42.58 for me which I'm quite pleased with. Knackered at the end, I had nothing left in the last kilometer

43:26 on the chip. I could have gone a bit quicker but had I started further up the field....my first 1-2k was very slow due to the crowd bunching up.

All in all a good run though and I felt pretty good for all the race.
