I thought he had potential but, like him, he found out that he wan't as good as he thought he was. Poorly exposed in premier games I saw him in on TV. In hindsight he would have been better off graduating towards the premiership with us, rather than being dropped in it with Sunderland. Gus did him no favours there.

We don't play that third centre back role any more that Gus loved, our centre mids have to be box to box, so it's a no from me because Bridders is an average attacking player

Yes I quite agree, there will be plenty of away games when that will be the case, like next Saturday at Derby for instance, where Hughton will probably elect to sacrifice a winger for an extra midfield player.

That said ,the re-signing of Liam Bridcutt, and the very restricted role that he plays, really isn't the answer. He did himself no favours with the way he sulkily downed tools to force his departure to Sunderland either.

He probably needed a map and compass to find his way back to the half way line!, and yes I remember those two screamers he scored for us at Withdean, but at the end of the day a goal is a goal, whether it's a shot into the top corner from 30 yards, or it goes in off your derrier.

Why doesn't he come and clean the Amex toilets for a couple of months to pay back the wages he 'stole' from us during his final weeks at the club. With his dinky little arms he could get right up and round the u-bends no bother.

If we were to lose Kayal and/or Stephens we don't have the sufficient quality to replace them. We saw that in the Preston home game. I'll be disappointed if we don't invest in a midfielder in the transfer window - and I know we have Towell who I hope is brilliant but is currently unproven at this level.

Bridcutt was brilliant for us, one of the best midfielders in the league. He wouldn't replace Kayal or Stephens but he'd be on hand to cover if needed and he'd also give us the option of changing to 4-3-3/4-5-1 if we needed too. Yes, we have Ince, but Ince is a very different player to Bridcutt. It's all about options and as we've shown already we can mix it up and play in different ways when we need too.

As for how he left, wasn't it actually Nathan Jones saying he didn't think Liam was focussed enough to play, rather than Liam saying it? They probably new he was going to be leaving and wanted to start playing the players who would be here in February. Seen enough of these sort of stories over the years to know there's two sides to every story and it's not always as black and white as people like to make out and remember it as. Besides, with Nathan still at the club, I somehow doubt we'd sign Bridcutt if he thought he wouldn't be good for the group.

So if there is any truth to this and we signed him, personally I'd be absolutely delighted. Bridcutt was class for us, to see him in a midfield with Kayal and Stephens if we needed to set up that way would be awesome.

That's making a lot of assumptions about Liam's character that you don't know to be true. Rumours and misquotes quickly become fact. As I said, the club know what happened, Nathan Jones knows what happened. If the club and Jones were both happy for Liam to return then I'd hope people on here would pipe down and support him.

As for not needed - who is to say Kayal or Stephens wont suffer a serious injury at some point this season? We would be buggered without them. It's a weakness in our squad, like the left back position, that we need to strengthen.

Bridcutt is a good player at this level if he has support from a bigger team player in the middle prepared to do the boring stuff and do it well. I think Bridcutt struggled in the first season in the Championship because he was too small and left isolated against much bigger teams. He really came into his own when he had Hammond alongside him who was able to provide the muscle and allow Bridcutt the freedom to express himself. Saying that, it's clear he can't cut it at a higher level than this, I think we've got players that are as good as him and we don't play to the style he was so successful at here. And he's burned his bridges as far as I'm concerned.

We've all moved on, he's Albion history and that's where I think he should stay.

I loved Bridders when he played for us. He made everything tick. Hardly any move got going without him orchestrating it from the back. These days, Kayal and Stephens do that job, a bit further up the park.

Is Bridcutt too specialist a player for his own good? If so, is that Poyet's fault for moulding him that way? The guy is a huge talent but he's hopelessly typecast. I can't really see what we'd gain from him now, or what he'd gain from us.

I think Hammond was hated more much more than Bridcutt and we supported him when he returned. If Bridcutt came in and helped us win football matches no one would be booing him. As for [MENTION=5200]Buzzer[/MENTION]'s comments about not good enough for Prem. 1, not every moves works, might do well with a different club in a different situation and 2, what if we just got him on loan till the end of the season instead? The 100m+ we'd make from promotion would more than pay for the cost of bringing him in.
