It's this sort of post that makes me realize how old I am because I remember Brian well.

Brian Tawse arrived in Brighton in (if I remember correctly) December 1965. He made twenty-two League appearances in that undistinguished season, and scored six League goals; remarkably, he made the same number of League appearances in the following (even less distinguished) season, and scored a further six League goals. But I imagine that most of those Albion fans who remember him will recall his disallowed goal against Chelsea in the fourth round of the FA cup on February 18th, 1967, when the Albion came so close to beating a very good Chelsea side. One Wilf T. did not play in that game, but was brought back for the replay at Stamford Bridge in which we were hammered 4-0.

Brian finally lost the no. 11 shirt to Kit Napier in the 1969-70 season. He had been a very good servant to the club, and was regarded with great affection by many supporters.

Ah Tiger Tawse, he of the boyish good looks and ability to blaze a penalty over the north stand roof against Watford I think in 69.

Good little player though....

Yep, I saw 'tiger' tawse, played on the left wing.

I didn't see him often as he left soon after i started watching. i thought he had gone to South Africa. good to hear he's back in the area. time they wheeled him out at Withers so we can see if he still has those boyish looks!

Was a very popular winger as he tore down the left wing. My memory must be fading but I thought that he was here after Kit Napier had left but I may be wrong.

No, as Wilf T posted he was here some years before Kit N arrived. Tiger Tawse played in the first game I watched in Feb 1967.

He's back in B&H area now - I think he's driving a cab... at least that's what a cab driver told me a few months ago.

.

I accept that you are probbly right but as you get older time moves on so quick and I have aseen so many players during my 60+ years of watching The Albion that sometimes the order and finer details become a little blurred in the memory.

When he was here there was one person who stood on the East Terrace who used to give him plenty of gip every game.

Back in the 60's and 70's we always seemed to have wingers who could leave defenders standing. Shame most of them didn't know how to stop before reaching the end of the pitch.

You thinking of Dave Armstrong? Speedy as hell but hardly ever got a cross in.

Kit Napier was playing for the Albion when I first started watching them but Tawse had already left.

Kit Napier joined the Albion in October 1966 , only a few months after Tiger Tawse signed.

He was on the list with the GB athletics squad for the Mexico Olympics I read many moons ago.
Couldn`t cross a ball though.

Me too - remember him scoring a belter from 25+yds once at the Goldstone, but memory of the opposition has vanished from my server.

I believe it was a late equalisser against the mighty Hartlepool, a relegation bound team that everybody else beat.

Mind you, in the earlier, away game, be won 5-2 at 'pool with the famous ALEX DAWSON, getting 4.

The scandal. Why was Tiger Tawse's goal disallowed against Chelsea?
