Didn't he get them promoted to the premiership the first time round?

Stupid decision, they were always going to be on a relegation scrap fight, can't see how bringing a new manager in now will help, not enough time left in the season.

Unless the thinking is they want a manager who can get them back up at the first attempt and McDermott wouldn't be able to do it.

Panic setting in what with QPR no longer dead man walking.

Hope they go down - with or without Adkins.

Understand abit of where you 'are coming from' but Reading needed something out of the Villa game. Harsh and i would have kept him, simply because they try to play football and have given it a go. UNLIKE STOKE CITY.

Joke of a decision. Football has gone absolutely mad. Hope they get relegated!

Reading seem to think they are entitled to be in the Premier League and so have sacked the man who got them there against all the odds. That's the reward for over-achievement - just ask Billy Davies, who somehow performed the miracle of taking Derby up through the play-offs and got the push when it all went predictably tits-up.

Also see Shearer at Newcastle. I'm not sure that there is a single example of one of these panic sackings after the transfer deadline ever coming good. I'm guessing not.

Another ridiculous sacking in Premier League

If Gus got us promoted this season and we were in the same position a year later I hope we would not behave the same

Football is slowly eating itself

Just above the chin.
Managers are so easily sacked nowadays it's ridiculous.
Reading FC have got their heads in the clouds if they think they could survive in the premiership with that squad.
Finishing 19th in the league would have been a great finish them.
