One thing i've noticed with quite a significant number of brexiteers is their opinion of what brexit would end up has changed as we've gone throught the process, but they claim that that's what they always believed. It seems quite common for them to be much more hardline about brexit now than at the time of the referendum, that whole change from it will be easy to get a deal with the eu to I've always supported no deal.

There’s an easy solution to retain the integrity of the thread. The mods can simply send all posts making a Remain point from non Brexit voters to the Brexit thread.

I didn't know that individual posts could be moved to a different thread. I've just checked, and they can. Thanks for the pointer.

The flaws in your suggestion are:

1) I know who all the remain voters were. I don't.
2) I have the time to:

a) assess whether the post is sufficiently 'remain' to warrant moving it - after establishing whether the point has been made by a Brexit voter (in which case it stays here) or whether it's been made by a remain voter
b) determine whether I edit, leave, or move any replies quoting such posts identified in 2 a) above.

I don't have time to do this.

People will either honour the OP's request, or they won't.

I voted for Brexit but I was wrong. It's not that I'm against Brexit in principle - I wouldn't have voted for it if I was - but the people negotiating it have made a complete and utter horlicks of the whole thing. It's already cost the country a fortune and will hit us even harder in the coming years.

The whole thing has been an object lesson in how not to negotiate, future historians will look on this episode and shake their heads in despair, wondering how it came to pass

We won't have a shit government forever. At some point a party will get their act together and someone will take advantage of put new political freedom.

It was worth a go but the usual suspects have arrived and derailed the the thread, Watford will be along soon along with the Nico’s

Well you can prove anything with Facts

like Gwylan and Simster did a few posts ago, but I'm sure they won't do it again. And you can always do what Neville's Breakfast suggests and ban anyone who posts a fact.

Don't worry, I won't upset your own private discussion with any. Carry on :lolol:

(If you would actually like any of your statements fact checked, just pop them on the Brexit thread )

so no one is deterred even though none of the below promises have been delivered? After all, people voted on the understanding this what they would get

When politicians are not held to account and repeatedly lie to us all, it's little wonder 1/3 of the population don't bother voting. The sadder thing is people are stupid enough to believe them

You say "easy solution".

I say I'm not wasting my Friday evening checking every post on this thread just because a couple of Karens want to call their manager.

Yeah, I withdraw the suggestion it would be easy

No need for the name calling though GB.
The thread is a decent idea but it will inevitably just end up replicating the Brexit thread (see posts above).

Agreed, withdrawn. My apologies.

Been a few "Karens" comments on one of my Whatsapp groups this week. Probably shouldn't have brought it on here.

Still leaving and bloody loving it :O

In terms of losing money, leaving the EU will cost us nowhere near as much as the nonsense Covid restrictions will.

That doesn't follow at all. It could easily have been painless - exit the EU but stay in the customs union (if not the single market) in order to keep the GFA intact. Why exactly has that not been done?

Because the EU's requirements for us to stay in either the Customs Union or the Single Market were always going to be such that a British Government taking the vote seriously would never be able to zccept them without being seen to cave in.

I say that as a remainer not voting in this poll, accepting the result of the referendum, expecting a no-deal and expecting our Government to blame it unjustifiably on The European Union.

PS and I hope I'm wrong.

I think it is now clear and obvious why some posters cba to post answers to questions, explanations nor justification.

However passionately eloquent or reasoned the wording is, it will be analysed then criticised by opponents.

That's just the way it is, and always will be, hence the more straightforward Leave Means Leave.

Yeah, well you can prove anything with Facts can't you ?

What did Brexit look like in your mind when you voted for it? Did you foresee any of the problems we had with negotiations?

I’m really interested to hear your opinion as you are one of the more balanced contributors on here.

Why do Brexiteers still believe the tripe this govt comes out with, despite each and everything they say, is proven to be bollocks. Of the Brexit promises made, how many are still viable. Brexit has degenerated for some as some sort of battle between 'left' & 'right', when there is absolutely no link between the two sides. As it stands, just seems like pro Brexit people just don't want to be seen as making a mistake.

Dave mate your of the “left” & a remainer and you’re on a thread that was a question directly asked to Brexiters and you’re on it arguing and spoiling for an argument [emoji23]

For a start I was astonished that we didn't stay in the CU or the Single Market. All the talk before the referendum was being like Norway or Switzerland. Gove said it. Johnson said it. Farage said it. Hannan said it - the idea of having no trade agreement was never discussed (unless it was Brexiteers saying that it was Remain propaganda).

I'm also astonished that there was no passporting arrangements between the financial institutions given how important the sector is to the UK economy. And finally, I never believed that a Conservative government would so cavalier about European co-operation on crime and security.

I didn't foresee any problems with these, I thought they were a given. I was wrong. I also would like to have seen free movement kept but I knew that may be hard for some Brexiteers to swallow, so it didn't surprise me to see that.

But the push towards no deal and all that entails: lorry parks in Kent, 50,000 customers officers, quotas and tariffs strike me as totally bonkers and I can't understand why any government would want them.

What I wanted was to withdraw from CAP and institute new guidelines on state investment. I also thought that a by-product would be an eventual move to a unified Ireland and Scottish independence (both of which I support) - although I agree that they would need to be supported by the Irish and Scottish people.

I've got some of what I wanted but there's a whole lot of other baggage

I accidentally selected the wrong option because I actually voted Remain (having lived and worked in another EU country for a period of time) but I am now firmly pro-Brexit. I am of "another opinion" as even though I am well-educated and am well acquainted with current affairs, I am no expert on fiscal matters, so I (along with many of us) really have no idea whether we're going to be richer or poorer. However, I am of the opinion that:

a) Brexit needs to happen for democracy's sake - even if it were to leave us worse off
b) Like most things in life, it probably won't be quite as wonderful nor nearly as terrible as those on the extremes of both sides paint it

The options don't really cover me - I accept, and always have, that we'll be financially poorer BUT I think what we lose financially we gain from our independence from a political organisation.

A very honest and well articulated view described in a few sentences.

You’ve put a price on our total independence and you are prepared to pay for it.

It makes such a change from some who paint the withdrawal as a massive financial opportunity (although it will be for the likes of Somerset Capital Management).

You said in the other thread to pop any fact checks over on this thread.

“If you would actually like any of your statements fact checked, just pop them on the Brexit thread )”

Can you fact check the following statement please.

Watford O is so desperate for people to hear his rhetoric he now posts the same you tube video link on two threads. [emoji6]

It was appropriate to two discussions underway with different people on different threads

But since you're here, are you hoping Johnson will get a free trade deal with the EU or do you want 'no deal' ?

(And don't worry, if you don't want to say, don't know or don't understand, you can always run back to the Big Board )
