I don't think Brexit is dead, i think this ruling increases the likelihood of no deal. With all the political shenanigans over here, who could blame the EU from walking away from us now? Their patience may run out even if Boris is forced to ask for an extension. I don't believe he will ask in any case, he will try to weasel out of it.

It is fair to blame parliament. A massively remain favouring parliament initially agreed to uphold the referendum, even the liberals stated they would respect it. Creeping rebellion set in and now after 3 years, remain elements are invigorated and emboldened and many simply don't care at all about the largest vote in our countries history.

Whichever the outcome, there is a LOT of trouble coming over this.

I should have said 'their' Brexit died.

The EU don't want a no deal. They will posture, but they will keep giving us an extension if we ask. In fact, it is likely given the political state of the government that they will offer an extension and Parliament will vote whether to accept. The government may not have a say in that given it cannot control the order paper.

What has Gina miller done?

The constant changes of law prior to this and for the judges to make a decision on a political matter as they did today will cause outrage.
The smug MPs who are thinking they got victory will look back on their actions when this country explodes, mentally and physically.

This is a sad day for the UK.

Those MPs and supporters of this constant drive to stop the people's decision should hang their heads in shame.

Incredible.

Not quite sure why we're discussing the court judgement in this thread TBH, after all we kept being told prorogation had nothing to do with Brexit?

I hope when all this shambles is sorted out, Gina Miller and John Bercow should both get elevated to the Lords.

British heroes, both of them.

"...when the royal commissioners walked into the House of Lords [to prorogue parliament] it was as if they walked in with a blank sheet of paper."

Didn't Doctor Who have some "psychic paper" like that?

I can see him struggling for a gig this year

Plymouth have Brian Conley and Rusty Lee
Lyme Regis have Germaine Greer and Oliver Letwin
Cambridge have Jonnie Peacock and Tom Korni
Brighton have Boy George and Antony Cotton
and even Hailsham have Jimmy "It's the way I tell 'em" Cricket

Although I still don't understand why Plymouth get first choice every bloody year

Could Boris resign and hand over to Jacob Rees-Mogg without any leadership election etc?

As Tory leader? I don't know the intricacies of the rules but possibly. But there's no way he would be able to convince the Queen he can command a majority of the House. Especially after being outed as having lied to her face only a couple of weeks ago.

If the mps don't like it, they can call a vote of no confidence. Once again, all sides are acting in their own self interest. It's a Mexican standoff.

This is just not true. If ever a government you disagree with tries to pull a similar stunt, the law will not allow it and you will be glad of today's ruling. Our law is based on precedent and one has been set today.
