I have been on building sites around Reigate in the run up to the referendum and many of the Polish, Lithuanian and Romanians fully understand the situation, many of them agree with our anti EU stance. They admit they come here for the higher wages, some send the money home, others want to settle here. Even builders can have serious conversations about it.
The funny thing is many Polish guys who have settled here are getting pissed off with the Hungarians and Romanians undercutting them.

You can't go abusing people in the street over a political matter. If people are getting abuse through their nationality on the streets of Britain, then we are down a dark path indeed, and it needs condemning on every level.

I have a friend in Shoreham, who is French, married a British man, who has lived here for a number of years. She says she now feels unwelcome here.

I have a colleague, who is Polish, and married to a British man, who has lived here for number of years, She says she doesn't understand what all the fuss is about.

Yep, I agree with that caveat to my suggestion too. It really is a clusterf*ck.

Both the Tories and Labour are currently in meltdown. Hardly anyone expected leave to win, and there was (is) no semblance of a plan to deal with the aftermath. The SNP has an articulate leader with some real, but narrow, ideas; but she has no actual power at the UK level - she can't make a referendum for Scottish Independence happen, and the suggestion that the Scottish Parliament could block a move to invoke Art 50 is a complete non-starter. The Lib Dems, though late to the party are carving out a "vote for us at the next GE (whenever that is), and we'll stay in Europe" line, which is a relevant starter position for a party, but they are utterly powerless until a GE, and have such a huge hill to climb to have any influence over policy after a GE that it's a real long shot to believe they'll be relevant. UKIP have one MP. Farage isn't even an MP. The Greens have one MP.

A complete and utter clusterf*ck.

The Government has to get a grip somehow, and Labour needs to figure out whether it wants to be trying to capture the middle ground (again) or be a socialist party, elect or retain a leader accordingly, and become an effective Opposition.

It just shows the incompetence of the ruling class, the political elite , the civil service at Whitehall and whoever else is in charge. Nobody thought that there would be a leave vote and they will be doing their utmost to make sure we don't.

There is nobody in this country with authority at the moment. Cameron is finished, Corbyn is fighting off the Blairites, Farron - who ?, Sturgeon is hated by the rest of the UK, Leanne in Wales is best left in the valleys, Farage is as confused as the rest , there simply isn't anyone capable at the moment of taking charge and acting like a leader.

God knows where this ends up.

No businesses need to stop being so bloody greedy, and we need to pay a bit more, that is truth of it.
We are more than capable of creating our own wealth in this country. The Germans have a healthy manufacturing base, so why can't we.

Manufacturing can be broken down into three main categories.

Automated mass production.
Labour intensive mass production.
Bespoke quality artisan production that individuals will pay a premium for.

None of these is going to provide employment on any scale in this country and in fact category 2 will be decimated over the next decade as category 1 brings with it efficiencies on a scale that will largely make differentials in labour cost an irrelevance. Companies like Dyson, who today outsource to Malaysia due to labour cost advantages, will over the next decade move to a cloud manufacturing model, whereby production will be moved around based on cost algorthyms, determined by cost of input materials, transportation, available capacity, energy costs and target market (a mixture of transport and politcal/economic considerations).

Just like cloud computing the manufacturing cloud will only have space for a small number of companies, who are able to operate on the massive scale required to produce at the lowest unit costs. These companies will look to manufacture in locations that have the following;

1 A stable political/economic environment (Things need to be predictable and reliable)
2 Good access to markets (This is a mixture of good infrastructure and free movement across borders)
3 Access to a small but highly skilled workforce, who can keep the lights on.

I don't know what this means today for the poorly educated and the unskilled. From a national perspective I would suggest that we should elevate education, above even health and we should be planning a second tunnel to Europe followed by one to Ireland.

The £ against the Euro was nearly parity 3 years ago , today it is 20 cents higher than then but it doesn't fit the narrative people want

Er, bollocks:

http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=GBP&to=EUR&view=5Y

It was once at 1:10 over 5 years ago, and since then has twice bottomed out at around 1:14. That's admittedly 6 cents lower than now, but only because the Euro itself is relatively weak right now.
Machiavelli is spot on. Read the facts - the pound is the weakest it has been against the dollar for THIRTY years.

Pound at lowest levels against both the euro (for two years) and the dollar (for 31 years) #panic

The £ fell 30% against the $ in 2008... and we seem to have 'survived'... so a few % here and there on #BrExit vote is hardly something to #panic about, is it?

If someone is thick enough to believe that voting for Brexit is a simple solution to their racist gripes (NB, I'm only talking about one group within the Brexit camp, before people get their hackles up), then they are probably also thick enough to believe that Brexit success means that their nasty views have somehow been endorsed.

This is interesting too. It would appear that if there was a re-run of the referendum then the Leave vote would go up. The Leave voters dissatisfied with the result of the referendum is 1% and the Remain voters happy with the result is a staggering 4%. I must admit, I can't get my head around 4% of Remain supporters being happy with this.
It might be that we were told we'd be at war if we left, security would be ****ed, Article 50 would have been instigated last week, etc. There would have been voters on both sides that weren't sure - some who chose remain will now be feeling that it's not going to be as bad as our leaders said after all.

Well, the remainers screamed at us over and over again that the Leave campaign was all lies. Looks like they were right about that (although not in the way they meant).

My error, only 6 years to recover...Let's see where it goes now and how long it takes this time to get back as the implications for business rack up. #wedon'tknowwhatwe'redoing.

In other news politicians in France are looking to revoke the Le Touquet agreement.
This will mean we cannot do immigration checks in the French channel ports so all those migrants who have been held in 'The Jungle" and other camps will be free to board ferries etc to the UK.
As the French will be free to refuse to take them back we will have to deal with them.
What rot. Of course we wouldn't have to deal with them, we can just send them back. It's up to France what to do with migrants it their country.

I head this on the news - what exactly is her plan? To get Scotland out of the UK? We need a plan for a new agreement between the UK and the EU, what's her plan for that?

Well, perhaps planning is not the right word but she is exploring all options: another independence referendum, negotiating directly with the EU whilst remaining in the UK, vetoing the bill in Westminster where the law is not abundantly clear as to whether the Scottish Assembly have to agree to leaving the EU or not. She is clear that she has a mandate from the Scottish people to stay in the EU by hook or by crook and she is exploring all avenues to make that happen.

My point really was that she is the only one appearing to do something - the leadership in Westminster do not appear to be doing anything at all at the moment. Osborne said nothing in his statement this morning, Boris is wandering around Oxfordshire, Dave is hiding in number 10 and Corbyn is dodging journalists trying to keep his job.

This article from the BBC tries to explain whether Scotland can stop Brexit or not: http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-36635012

discrimination is against the law. Police will investigate hate crime. What we cant do is make Government policy in fear of the reaction of criminal elements within society. I hope your friend is happier when the dust settles.

It doesn't have to be hate crime. There are ways of excluding people in subtle ways. Kids learn it in the playground.
