Not so sure whether to laugh or cry when Lord Snooty claims that checks at the border will be 'an act of self harm'. Many of us used this phrase to sum up the whole Brexit car crash (and a long time before it happened).

Seems self harm is making life harder for French producers of camembert.

Meanwhile UK human trafficking exports are about to soar, should help the balance of trade

precisely, no one could have explained the advantages of EU membership better than Jacob Rees Mogg

Does this mean we're not checking ANY imports? ie not just EU imports

I believe not as we currently stand, but we are breaking WTO rules by giving preferential treatment to the EU so, if another WTO member files a complaint, they will be entitled to the same smuggling and VAT fraud opportunities as the EU countries.

Yes, we're currently in breach of WTO Most Favoured Nation as we're giving the EU far more favourable terms than others. Only a matter of time the rules catch up with the planks in charge

You really have no understanding of Brexit or anything in life generally do you :dunce:

That's exactly where we are heading with the new laws to ignore the NI Protocol being pushed through and ensuing trade war

Destroying Britain's export market
A crashing economy
Raging cost of living
Rocketing immigration
No border controls until the end of 2023 (if you believe JRM)
Allowing British goods to be undercut by imported EU ones
An open border for smugglers and VAT fraudsters
Never mind the agriculture, fishing, performing arts, logistics industries etc etc

and Johnson is now going to try and 'Get Brexit Undone'.

Going brilliantly isn't it :shootself

Interesting. The topic of conversation states the UK economy is outperforming the EU whereas the commentator seems to frame the impact of brexit as not as bad as being made out, i.e. facts. At no point do they even attempt to argue that leaving the EU has in any way benefitted us, insulated us from higher inflation or that in some way imposing trade barriers on ourselves with our nearest trading partners was some kind of masterstroke for reasons x,y,z....

To be honest why do they bother?, just admit it was ideological and that economic harm was a price worth paying

It looks like it's finally dawned on JRM what they've done

Jacob Rees-Mogg makes Remain argument by calling Brexit measures ‘act of self-harm’

It comes as checks on food entering the UK which were due to be introduced in July were pushed back again to 2023. The minister of state for Brexit opportunities and government efficiency spoke to ITV News on the matter, and said that allowing the government's own Brexit deal to be fully implemented "would have been an act of self harm.”

“You’re admitting that this could save £1billion, which is admitting that checks would cost £1billion. I thought that post-Brexit checks were not going to be disruptive?” he was asked by the reporter. “That’s why we’re not adopting them,” he replied. “This would have been an act of self-harm if we’d gone ahead with it."

So JRM is now openly admitting that Brexit is an act of self harm, Johnson is trying to push through domestic laws to allow him to break International law, reverse his unimplementable 'Good deal' and GET BREXIT UNDONE and yet there are still supporters of it on NSC. Well who could have guessed

All gonna kick off with the DUP shortly as their ill thought out backing of Brexit comes to roost.

I'm sure Johnson has a plan

His plan will be the same as it always is :

(1) Lie
(2) Kick issue into long grass
(3) Talk about being "world beating"

The Guardian.

As impartial and objective as per.

Maybe you should use some of your impartial sources to put up some of the benefits you claimed we would get as a result of Brexit

And it may be best to leave your hero JRM out as he is now calling putting in border controls 'an act of self harm'
