I don't wish us to do a deal and yet allow freedom of movement for that is not what I voted for..

Shame that we've such a vague and open question on the ballot paper that what you voted for is largely irrelevant. As long as we "leave the EU" then they could do whatever they want and claim it as a mandate. This is the main reason I hated this referendum, there should have been a clear, unambiguous plan laid out to vote on. No wiggle room. No bullshit.

Brighton / Hove actually
If Scotland and N Ireland remain in the EU we could well be little Englanders. Great Britain would not exist if they split and our British passports would have to be changed to an English passport. To go to Europe we will require visas because the EU won't be planning on making it easy for us.

My main concern is keeping the UK and Great Britain on the map though.

To be honest I agree with you on principle-but am clear in my mind what the question and implications of the vote were.

As an aside correct me if I am wrong, but I thought the referendum was to be in 2017 when originally stated.....perhaps we should have waited a year to exhaust all eventualities, especially after this election comes on the back of last years general election.

What do you propose we do now to take things forwards I would like to hear you honest unbiased views and whilst I would welcome we are up a creak without a paddle replies , what I am really after is workable solutions.

What is your preferred model Canada Norway or Swiss or New non EU UK?

It's happened and there is no turning back so where do we go from here?

Thank you.

Take a deep breath, wave your flag and jump!

Yes, they will make it as difficult as possible for us to go and spend money in Europe

The only way that will happen is if Scotland vote to independence, get their own currency and re apply for EU membership.....The Scots are forever edging toward a Brexit of the UK..

The problem is that we are at the behest of the EU over the type of model that can be created. This is especially a problem as they want Article 50 enacted straight away. The 'Leave' campaign want no hurrying, but their hands may be tied by EU lawyers who may insist that Cameron informing them on Monday of the UK's intention is enough (Source:BBC). It's not going to be an easy ride.

Entry into the single market also means free movement (that's my interpretation anyway). So apart from being freed of a lot of laws and regulations (which we have to keep a number of when selling to Europe anyway), I can't see a meaningful lot that would have changed.

The additional problem is the one of negotiation and building new laws. It may be better to circumvent this by publishing a single Act that enshrines all EU law into British law initially and then gets unpicked over a period of time. That way we keep the ones we want, if only for compliance, and alter others. Whitehall will be busy for many years to come.

Scots, agitating and irritating nonentities that suckle money rather than providing it. Vile politics!
Ps. yes I have Scottish friends and relatives who live in Scotland and they agree. They should be GRATEFUL not bolshy.

Just remember that there are still many of the population around who were conned in to voting this country into the EU in the first place. It was a vote to enter a common market with no mention of sovereignty or law making.being handed over to this beaurocratic dictatorship.
Just remember there are many still alive who lost relatives in the war. Many of those killed were just teenagers . my great aunt lost both her young sons.,Tthese men and boys. British, Irish, Polish, Indian, Canadians and French resistance thought they were fighting to save sovereignty and democracy and it was appaling that what they died for was for nothing as power was just handed over anyway.
So maybe you should be disgusted and ashamed - with yourselves.

I respect your views but prefer to look forward rather than backwards. Problem is no-one knows what the future holds now and neither do you.

I struggle with the EU but the reality is that we were part of the bureaucratic dictatorship.

I won't put on my dancing shoes yet though

No but we could all try and buy British products where ever possible over imported goods, holiday in the UK for the next couple of years, live well within our means.. Etc ....

The decision, regardless if we agree or not has been made, we all need to work harder and each and every individual needs to take responsibility in their trade/industry. An example solar power in the uk was booming, the government took the decision on the tariffs and over night destroyed this...why? Renogotiate, we can be more self sufficient here on energy, every market needs to work with the new government , who must be supportive.

Thanks for all the replies-no need to start another thread-

Again to remainers-

Would you be happy for Scotland to break the UK Union if we stayed in the EU as The United Kingdom of England Wales and N Ireland ?

What are the odds? what happens first?

A-The EU collapse
B-The UK flourishes eventually after Brexit
C-The Albion get promotion

all 3 are real possibilities

And all three require blind optimism !

I assume this is hypothetical as when you take out Scotland the leavers have an even bigger mandate. Unless I'm reading it wrong. I'm happy for Scotland to do as Scotland wishes. It would just be sad if they left- which I'm sure they now will.

And probably plenty more people who would vote knowing the current situation.
