Those weren't promises exactly, they were said to be what would obviously happen. Assuming everyone was going to be reasonable, play fair and accept the result. The fact that they have decided not to do that changes nothing, the only reason they have decided not to do it is because they think it might change something. It changes nothing.

Happy to have read this. I'm generally not well disposed towards conspiracy theories. Indeed if anything my hypothesis would be that Leavers are more prone to believe conspiracy theories than Remainers, and the stereotypical way in which many of them perceive the EU gives some grounds for thinking this might well be the case. Notwithstanding that, the article was a reasonable de-bunking of a view held by a minority (including it seems Johnson's own sister!) that there are dark forces waiting for the post-Brexit crash and to profit it from it.
I'm not going to subscribe the conspiracy theory (yet) but let's not fool ourselves: a no-deal Brexit will be an economic disaster, conspiracy or no conspiracy.
