Odd that you should say that. When I asked you a measured question of about the possibility of EU members doing bilateral trade deals last month you roared off into a cloud of abuse and told me to sling my hook. Your view of abuse seems to depend on the direction it's going in.

I take your first point, but once the dust had settled after June 24th, it wasn't a crisis. The were no time constraints and a time out caused by a summer leadership contest wasn't going to add fuel the flames particularly.

What we needed was a strong and stable leadership as PM, a Thatcher Mark 2.0 and the problem was people thought we had one, including MP's in her own party who must think now - 'What the **** did I do?!' when they look back at endorsing Mrs May's tenure.

Not so sure. There was the shock of a leave vote followed by a shock of the PM resigning, financial, political instability as the country was effectively rudderless. Watching the Tories going through a leadership process for several weeks/ months at this pivotal time wasn't a good look.

It is a really hard balance for leaders to please the party members and the parliamentary bods. The part membership is absolutely not representative of the general population. It is a pretty fair assumption that someone who would sign up to join either the conservatives or labour is very unlikely to switch to the other party. To win an election you need the people in the middle to support you.

If May just appeases the party members then she will be pleasuring the wealthy and old and disengaging many others.

Jezza appeasing party members would disengage non extreme socialists.

I appreciate those are crude assumptions as not all tories are loaded and old and not all labour members are massive socialists but it is to illustrate a point. I turn 40 this year and the only majorities in my voting life have been for Blair and Cameron (on second occasion) and they are both clearly to the middle ground cardamom neared to their average party member.

The parliamentary members know all of this which is why thy are trying to please everyone. Apart from people who are in contintuencies where a pig would get elected if it had the correct rosette.

Perhaps. I'm looking back at the aftermath of June 23rd 2016 with rose tinted glasses I suppose, because in hindsight they were halcyon days in comparison to now. This isn't a crisis. It's far worse. Rudderless or not then, at least there was a ship and a crew, unlike now.

The negativity is terrible. I will keep doing the job posts. I think it's important to show this country isn't going down the pan. But I also think it's important to wait 12 months to see how Brexit pans out.

May was picked because she was loyal to the party and perceived to be acceptable to both Remainers and Leavers.

Outside of the Tory bubble she was nothing but a useless Home Secretary.

I still can't fully understand why Boris withdrew from the leadership contest. Having led the Leave campaign to victory he would have had the authority and support to have made a better fist of the Brexit negotiations than May and the charisma to pull both sides of his party together. Dominic Cummings said he thought Boris was the man to deliver Brexit.

That's very true, but it's evolved into a far worse state.

I said this my Dad last weekend when I saw him, who is 78 this year and agreed with me, in regards to May - In both his and my lifetimes, she's managed to surpass what every other Prime Minister has done by becoming an absolute joke. An absolute, utter international embarrassment. Whatever your politics, whatever their failings, every predecessor to her had gravitas and respect simply on account of who they they were - The Prime Minister of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Douglas-Home, Callaghan - any of them, no matter how bad things were domestically, or in the case of Eden internationally, they still had standing, simply on account of their job title.

May is global joke as is this country now on her watch. That really is something else.

My post wasn't concerned about abuse-throwing (as depressing as it is) but about your furious reaction to a measured question. A couple of housekeeping inquiries if I may...

You refer to 'my comrades' - does that suggest that you regard all Remainers on here as belonging to some sort of unified left wing grouping? And in a response to me the other day you mentioned 'my generation'. I asked you what generation you think I belong to.

You don't have to answer of course but I'm intrigued.
