Dont know which history books you have been reading as in fact Tito led Yugoslavia was actually famous for refusing to toe the soviet line dsspite being a communist state.

Newspapers have to have stories. People want to be upset or offended at just about anything these days. And they are wrong as Yugoslavia had an aligned policy with the Soviet Union up till 1948 and afterwards although given more freedom than some, still had to keep in line with the Russians. It was a vassal state.

But it's not something that I think matters in the grand scheme of things.

As you say, Tito and Stalin fell seriously out in 1948. I am not sure that most people would describe Yugoslavia as a vassal state thereafter.

One definition of a vassal state I have heard recently is that it is a nation that has to comply with the rules of others whilst having no input into how those rules are created. That's how Jake and Boris define May's plans for the UK anyway.

I suppose she would agree that it's not something that really matters though.

Although, if Ljubljana one day took to describing the United Kingdom as a vassal state I doubt if our government would be particularly happy. Different rules I suppose.

Agreed, my comment was more about why it ended up on this thread as I found it irrelevant. But he may have offended people which isn't good. I am still perplexed though as by most metrics, Yugoslavia was a vassal state so why are they claiming not to have been? Maybe the Germans won't accept their Nazi history next? It is absurd.

Well, Hunt did refer to his Chinese wife as Japanese in a meeting once, around the table you could actually see the visible WTF rise above the table.

Yugoslavia no longer exists so you can't make an analogy with Germany in that regard. Yugoslavia may have been, but Slovenia was a state within the Yugoslavia which remained outside the iron curtain and part of the non-aligned movement. It's basic history really, and a state as complex as those of the former Yugoslavia you have to know your history better than that. You could probably read Wikipedia on the way over and be better informed than Hunt was.

Good for them. Perhaps they should look at the history books? And I say that as someone who would like to show respect, especially for a host, but that doesn't alter history. He was actually listing their achievements as well.

You're just sounding as arrogant as Hunt, frankly on this. I bet he doesn't see what the fuss is about either.

He's gone out there as our chief diplomat, ultimately playing the age old, arrogant British diplomatic trick of divide and rule, by trying to suck up to an individual European capital on Brexit - and he's messed up big time and insulted his hosts. Again.

Isn't it a bit misleading to say 'German Manufacturer Moves Headquarters'? Wenzel's HQ remains in Germany - I think this story is about them moving their UK office from one part of England to another. Not bad news for sure but it hardly offsets the thousands of jobs being lost elsewhere.

As you probably know the big picture on the UK employment front is overwhelmingly positive. Record numbers in work, 440,000 more jobs created last year, the vast majority full time, weekly average earnings went up by 3.4% .... all very confusing for treasury 'experts', many economists and numerous Remoaners.

I have no idea if he was being arrogant or not, I wonder how you know? Whether it was a mistake or not, his intention would not have been to upset the people he was asking favors of.

But feel free to be offended on behalf of others if you like.

Hunt was described as arrogant by a Slovenian politician and he does generally seem the sort - English people in The Conservative and Unionist Party who went to a school that invented a sport, or in Hunt's case that won The FA Cup, usually are.

I'm not offended in the slightest - it's just another incident, to go with many others over the last 3 years, as we continue our descent into becoming an utter international embarrassment of a country.

But you were all saying a few months ago that they hadn't spent anything preparing for it. So what have things suddenly changed and your moaning about this now. I'd say better to be prepared than not

But spending mad money to prepare for (the fallout of) Brexit is like spending mad money to build a new hospital wing to deal with the specialist physical and mental fallout of attempting an absurd Evil Kenevil style stunt on a motorbike. Why the actual **** do it? Anyway....that's two year old dialogue.

Well I agree the government is useless.

If you think Tito ran a vassal state under the Soviets, I think you must have a completely different understanding of history to mine ???

We've not even left the EU yet we have Liam Fox upsetting the Japanese, Hunt saying stupid things.

If the Tories had been genuine about offering 'strong and stable leadership in the national interest' at the last election, they shouldn't have proposed rescinding the fox hunt ban, they should have proposed banning Liam Fox and Jeremy Hunt instead.

How many of those 440k job gains are you claiming to be Brexit-related?

Only blinkered, partisan, plonkers (see the #teameu crew) would claim any changes on the job front were entirely down to one factor in the vast majority of cases ... which is why it's important to focus on the overall figures, even if they show up the shameful lies peddled by the remain side during the referendum campaign (see project fear). It's hard to know how many unfortunate remain voters swallowed the immediate 500,000 more unemployed fib if we voted leave. If it's not too rude .. may I ask if you believed this fib? I only ask because every patronising remoaner on this thread auotmatically assumes every leave voter is gullible and stupid enough to believe any lie.

Btw how many job losses are you claiming to be entirely Brexit related?

What an ignorant, selfish and spiteful comment to make. I'm hoping this is one of your provocative posts, the usual type just to try to get a reaction and not a genuinely held belief. If it is the latter, I pity you and those around you.

Don’t pity Me cupcake,I firmly believe we should not be paying out a single penny in foreign aid, not all the time ex servicemen and women are sleeping rough on UK streets, charity begins at home.

We have the money, we have been able to recapitalise the banks that caused the last recession and the enforced austerity that followed, the government decided that the likes of you and I had to pay for their mistakes. You may have noticed that charity does " Begin at Home " , it has to since cuts to benefits and services and infrastructure, hence the rise in Food Banks and homeless shelters, even Soup Kitchens are now re-appearing. This is not occurring because of Foreign Aid.

You’d have to be pretty naive to believe foreign aid is entirely altruistic.
