At least it will only be a dozen proper British tea-drinking tradesmen who will be undercutting each other in desperation to get each scrap of available work.

Sunlit Uplands
The sad thing is that Mogg, DisMay's husband, and the rest of the jolly jokers will be laughing all the way to the bank.

Brexitland betrayal.

no. the MoD have some people in logisitics and related areas available and the Minister has put them on standby to assist. people are interpreting this as "soldiers on the streets", because they like the fear. if they were on the street, it would be driving a truck.
as for stockpiling medicines, industry has committed to increasing existing supply chain stockpiles from 2-4 weeks to 6-8 weeks to cover contingency of shipping delay. most food imports by comes in bulk containers, expect it will be stockpiled in similar fashion. yes, it is nonsense.

Marvelous towing and spinning of the Government line there - hope they give you a biscuit for being a good boy.

What part of "3500 service personnel held at readiness – including regulars and reserves – in order to support any Government department on any contingencies they may need" specifically refers to just driving trucks/logistics?

With so few troops all they will be doing is defending Government offices, and vital infrastructure.

Civil Contingencies Act, curfews, *Anarchy in the UK*.

Caroline Noakes was given a bit of a grilling by Naga on BBC Breakfast. The 30K threshold is 'seemingly' flexible when there are shortages such as in hospitality or farming.

It's a long time until 2021 - I suspect it might become a lot more flexible once May and her hostile environment are out of the way.

John Humphreys vs Sajid Javid

JH: Meaning what?

SJ: Meaning just that. If you look at the current level of migration, the latest stats show 273,000. Most people agree that is very high, certainly by historical standards. In the last two decades it has been in the hundreds of thousands. If you go back further than that it was much lower. What we want to do is bring it to a level where it is sustainable, in the sense that it meets first our economic need and at the same time, though, it is not too high a burden on our communities or on our infrastructure.

JH: So you are abandoning the manifesto pledge then ... annual net migration in the tens of thousands rather then the hundreds of thousands that we have seen over the last few decades. You are abandoning that pledge?

SJ: We are not abandoning any pledge.

JH: In that case you are keeping it. It’s one way or the other.

SJ: In our manifesto we committed ourselves to bringing net migration down to sustainable levels.

JH: Yes, I’ve just told you what you committed yourselves to - tens of thousands.

SJ: In the manifesto we said it’s an ambition.

JH: No, objective.

SJ: The objective is to bring net migration down to more sustainable levels. And we will set out today in the white paper how.

JH: Just to be absolutely clear, it is no longer going to be tens of thousands.

SJ: Our objective is clear. It is about bringing net migration down ...

JH: I’m just trying to be absolutely clear. Has the tens of thousands figure been abandoned.

SJ: We remain committed to our manifesto.

JH: So you are keeping it?

SJ: We remain committed to our objective of bringing net migration down.

Bizarre post, coming onto a football forum and almost bragging how well your company are doing since Brexit as EU nationals go home..

Got to be honest, why? And I was a dyed in the wool remainer.

I am totally sick of the Tories using the word clear as a mantra. Nothing is clear and nothing has been clear.
Not one of their ministers issues a statement without 'clear' in it.

Police forces will need assistance too such as The PSNI, and I see Emma Little Pengelly MP of the DUP was calling for direct rule again for NI the other day - back to the 70's we go.

Angry? No. Astonished? Yes.

And your comparison is irrelevant.

The Times is reporting this morning that reforms to Social Care, among other policies, are being shelved to prepare for no deal. The DHSC have already diverted staff apparently.

Great.

Don't worry. The hedge fund backers will be rolling in it.

How on earth did this country get to this? A weak ineffective opposition, and a mad government running amok.

This immigration white paper is another attack on the NHS, and the PM is dog whistling by launching it a a ****ing airport.

Horrible, horrible woman. I'm starting to think she's going full blown openly racist and proud.

Her legacy will be to be remembered as the worst PM in history for inflicting so much harm on the country.

The gilets jaunes

Corbyn announced that the country was in crisis this week. Rubbish (well not yet anyway).

In France, they really are experiencing something close to crisis.

Slashing tax rates for Millionaires and introducing a fuel tax that hits the urban and rural lower middle class has incited rioting in the capital. The French Police have had enough and videos like below (contains extreme violence) are just driving more violence and destructive protests on the streets of Paris.

https://youtu.be/5-I_dT3VPts

Will we see this sort of violence on our streets that some if there is a second referendum and Brexit is overturned? Many Leavers have been threatening this in the media.

More likely to see violence on the streets if a hard brexit IS NOT overturned, and the economic effects start to hit home.

IMO.

Employment is at an all time high. There are lots of vacancies that cannot be filled, so where are the British people struggling to pay their mortgages because a European has got their job?
Please give examples rather than a general xenophobic post about them and us.
Go and visit a major construction site and you will get your example. You probably think it’s a good thing our youngsters are no longer offered proper apprenticeships to learn a trade and forced to work in your minimum wage dead end vacancies you quoted. You also still avoided the vote question just like all the remainers do.
