Good stuff - I disagree with the comments about respecting the people who voted to leave. Having already established that they were lied to, that they clearly could not possibly understand what was on offer (given that we still haven't even started to negotiate the future state) then the respectful thing to do is to offer them a new, better informed choice.

“Best possible deal” doesn’t mean “good deal”, of course. It isn’t a good deal, in the sense of one that delivers significant benefits. But it is better than all the alternatives – or more correctly, less bad than all the other bad alternatives.

I don't agree with the premise that we necessarily have to accept this supposed least worst option solely because of the vote two and a half years ago.

I know, the vote was Leave or Stay, and Leave won. How odd that this might then have to take place.

How about that those who voted for the principal, voted with emotion and fear and voted on one thing only; leave. It’s clear that the areas in this country with the least immigration voted for Brexit in the highest numbers to stop free movement of people, they want our borders secure. Many of them knew that thousands of jobs would be lost and the economy would shrink dramatically, they were prepared for this to happen, they were prepared to lose their own jobs and livelihoods to save the nation. How many leavers do you think actually want an informed choice? They voted to leave, that’s all the information they needed.

Labour always seem to do worse in 'the real thing' than in the polls, though. Often blamed on the 'Shy Tory' vote.

Still, either way we won't know unless or until we get a GE.

Except last time: the opinion pollsters have changed their methodology to adjust for the 'Shy Tory' effect - there was a theory that they over-compensated last election. We shall see next time round.

Why does it have to?

Hypothetically the situation maybe that there was irrefutable proof that the economy would definitely be 20% worse and people would definitely suffer. But we have to proceed anyway. That would be stupidity beyond belief.

That isn't the situation, but the situation is different to what it was two and a half years ago. You could argue that we should proceed on the basis of the vote and everything that has gone on since and that this is the best/least worst option, but there is no reason why we have to.

Many businesses would be worse off due to higher corporation taxes should Jezza and Co. get in. People will still vote for it, and expect it to happen should they win.

Why does the result of the first vote necessarily mean that we have to leave?

That's what breach of the GFA would make us, not to mention his proposed refusal to pay the divorce bill. Britain would be in the dock and would lose any remaining credibility in Europe

Still less Latvians, it will be worth it
