It’s a shame to see once thriving high streets reduced to wafty mobile phone shops, pawn shops and weird nomadic shops with no fixtures or fittings, selling wheelie suitcases, Take That mirrors, bongs , tea towels and rugs. All run by dodgy looking Arabs (is there any other type) with sandals and dirty toenails. Still, hopefully Brexit will flush a few of the buggers out.

This is only part of the story though.

1) They were recalculated last year.
2) There is relief available for certain businesses.

Now. If you want to raise more money you can tweak both of these.....as they did last year.

PS As for the graph comment....anymore lip from you and I’ll get my lawyer friend onto you. He will send you a cease and desist....in PDF form of course.

Question, are there any major German retailer chains that have gone bust since we jumped out the plane without a parachute? How does it compare with UK and I'm aware you have the internet over there too

I will be closing my retail outlet at the end of the year to concentrate solely on online mail order. I am not on a high street because we are specialist and people travel to us, however, less people are coming and more are buying online. The rising costs of labour to stand around serving nobody and the rise in business rates make it a no brainer. You could say that Brexit is partially responsible because we import most of our product and exchange rates have affected us but during the early days of Brexit I renegotiated with suppliers to mainly cover any downside.

I personally don’t blame Brexit for the change in our business model but the lack of people attending retail and buying online. I realise this is a straw poll of 1

Screwing suppliers due to the UK's incompetence isn't very sustainable, if have got the price down they would have come down anyway. Increased import costs due to Brexit have hurt retailers FACT and been a catalyst to failures on the High Street

Arabs are fine as long as you understand what you’re getting. Absolutely delightful people to socialise with but NEVER do business with them or let them see your daughter.

You should re-read what was said. They claimed the internet was to blame. I pointed out the internet had been around for a while now and it was odd that a spate of shops going out of business after brexit could simply be due to the internet. If broadband had come in at the same time as brexit, maybe, but it hasn't.

Oh no! They are not blaming the High Street Crisis on Brexit as well now are they?

An 'exclusive' in the sports section of The Times today - The FA are to propose a maximum of 12 non-HGP's in a Premier League squad of 25 post-Brexit. GBE's will be awarded to any foreign player that make up the 12, replacing the existing criteria. The FA are reported as being happy with current EFL arrangements though. If a deal isn't reached though apparently with The Premier League, then EEA players would face the same criteria as non-EEA players for GBE's. These are the current numbers in Premier League squads.

The Institute of Directors say the pool of labour talent is shrinking [as EU workers head for the nearest port or airport in record numbers]

Tej Parikh, senior economist at the Institute of Directors, explains:

“With pay packets finally picking up, households and retailers will have something to cheer about as we reach the festive period. Meanwhile, businesses are continuing to show resilience by opening up positions and pushing for new hires.

“However, we’re unlikely to be entering a ‘new dawn’ for persistent wage growth just yet, as firms are facing ongoing struggles investing in their productivity. Business leaders are also finding it more and more difficult to fill openings as the pool of available talent shrinks.

You say screwing suppliers and I say working with business partners. I guess I have a different relationship with those I do business with than you do..if you do of course
