You have got to laugh at the idiots on here getting excited about a theoretical number, that they are convinced is true, without a shred of evidence.

Other idiots are getting excited about it too, not just beorthelm.

Of course the devil is in the detail and he's talking utter nonsense, but I'm sure that kind of rhetoric will be lapped by the Mail and the Express and regurgitated by its clueless readers

The Mail appears to be too excited about Prince Harry to care about anything else at the moment, but The Express is headlining this and Farage's 'chilling warning' - https://www.express.co.uk/showbiz/t...ivorce-bill-Susanna-Reid-Good-Morning-Britain

I am not convinced at any point that they will offer us a fair free trade deal.

It's all part of a negotiation... nothing is agreed until everything agreed.

Everything else is froth and nonsense.

The offer has been made. It was sent to Brussells last week. Brussells reported they are thinking about it. So, it's going to be 50bn or highr isn't it, logic dictates that. Brussells are very unlikely to say "make it 15bn and we have a deal". Even cloud cuckoo Brexiteers like TP wouldn't imagine that.

Top job by our negotiators to beat the EU down from €100bn to €50bn!

Guess Boris told them to “go whistle” for the balance?

What a shambles this government and Brexit process are turning out to be....

Yes, up to 50bn, possibly 55bn, possibly higher. Now, think about it. They sent an offer to Brussels. Do you think that offer said "we will pay up to 50bn and no more"? So a figure would have been sent. I suggest that figure will be 50bn, otherwise the figure wouldn't have been sent. You just have to think a bit more, dear boy. Engage the old grey matter.

As for "could be sod all", crikey, you're thick as muck ain't you. You don't go to get divorced, the Mrs says I want 50,000, husband says No and then just walks away scott free because no deal was reached, he'll still be liable to pay her. Exactly the same with Brexit.

I'll offer you UP to 50bn, what'll it be Brussels?
Uuuuuuum, oooooh, Uhm, 50bn please.

will any of the remainers acknowlegde that the bill is for items the EU say we are due to pay?

I don't understand your point. Of course it is. This is exactly what was said all along I.e. We will have to pay an enournous bill to leave. I don't think it was remainders who said we would not pay a penny was it? Or is this a new meaning to "go whistle"

The interesting bit will be the detail about transition. How long are we paying in to ensure we are not completely screwed by leaving.

Even the Beeb have backed down. The offer could be 40 billion, and up to 50 billion.Only the people involved KNOW the sum mentioned. Not the BBC,not the Grauniad, not the Independent:)lol:),and certainly not some wally on a football chat site!Legally,we do not have to pay over and above our normal membership fees till 2019,and sod-all else.If you want to use divorce as an example, then Article 50 is a pre-nuptial agreement, already laid down in EU law,you thick as muck dimwit.

the point is some seem to think this is a cost of Brexit, when its really just seeing the costs in advance. the negotiations are for what should or shouldnt be in the bill and presmably the payment schedule. only a few fringe nutters like Farage say we wouldnt pay anything.

I take your point although... when we made the commitments and incurred the liabilities we did so without condition but on the reasonable assumption that we would be receiving the benefits of membership. We have decided to walk away from membership and the benefits we receive will be what our negotiating team manage to achieve, no more.

Many have said we should just walk away of course.
