Theresa May delivers speech by committee. Lacking details, lacking shape and direction. Nothing concrete on Ireland, nothing concrete on EU/UK Nationals.

Underwhelming - all she's done there is confirm that we're prepared to pay a bit of money, so 2 years money and 2 years transition. And she banged on about how we have so much in common it begs the question "Why the f**k are we leaving?!?"

Her priority is staying as PM and keeping the lid on the Tories infighting not in what is best for the country

My very own conspiracy theory. TM was a remainer, but the voters wanted Brexit. She is making is so difficult, that it may fail, so we don't leave in time.
Then it all has to start again, which may well be a reverse, as over 52% would now vote Remain.

Speaking of ambition/party before country ...Corbyn a lifelong eurosceptic campaigned to stay in then said we would be leaving the single market and that staying in wouldn't respect the referendum result then said we would stay in for as long as neccassery. Then said both things in the same interview.

Sterling falls after May's speech, which has also simultaneously managed to achieve derision from both Nigel Farage and Dr. Caroline Lucas.

She really is ******* useless.

To be fair regarding you first point if you are being criticised from both sides you are probably doing something 'right'.

I still tend to agree with your second point though!

Didn't you notice what happened about 15 months ago?

The question was asked in the context of what Theresa May just said, which was to stress the close ties, the "deep and special relationship", the desire for free trade with no tariffs, the shared commitment to fight illegal people smuggling from Africa, the shared security threats, the desire for a strong EU economy etc, etc.

The bit that got me was when she talked of the British people never really feeling part of Europe. I feel COMPLETELY the opposite of that and always have done, and I think she has completely misread the mood of voters under 40 who overwhelmingly voted to remain and who completely reject this 'Little England' mentality.

On the Border
In the past week we have had Boris and his back seat driving, but then Mrs May asserting that she is driving from the front. After todays speech however the Tories seem to have parked the car in the long stay car park, and pre-booked for a further two years.

It;s going to be a long long journey with leavers shouting have we left, have we left yet, have we got our country back yet.

A speech to provide clarity on the Irish border, EU/UK nationals, Post Brexit relationship. While we got slightly more than Brexit means Brexit, we still have a thick fog and have no idea what the future holds, other than we are going to be poorer, and these mythical free trade deals we are going to strike thrown further into the distance.

Strong and Stable? More and more like weak and clueless.
