Brewdog Brighton - it's happening - it's here!

They lost the live music at the Blind Tiger due to a person who moved in to the flat above the pub, so I don't think any live music can be played there unless the necessary sound proofing is installed. Perhaps Brew Dog will be able to pay for adequate sound proofing? Here are all the details:

That music complaint thing was bollocks, as the Council have confirmed. The chancers that ran the Blind Tiger had already decided to bail (that was actually the fourth different location of the Blind Tiger, each one they closed up and bailed from) and having just sold people £90 annual memberships, had to come up with some of way of doing it that made them look like the victims. Hence the sudden closure announcement one minute after the council offices closed for the weekend (so no-one could check their story). Pure bullshit. Surprised anyone fell for it at the time, let alone now that it's known that Brewdog had already agreed to take the venue over months ago.

Brewdog officially signed the deal for their Brighton bar at the start of May (several weeks before BTC announced their sudden 'enforced' closure). Realistically, given the enquiries/discussions/surveys etc talks would have been going on for at least a month or two prior. If they have taken over the BTC as claimed/expected it ties in with all the other bullshit that follows the Blind Tiger crew around. Nothing is ever their fault. Student Ents folk thinking they can run gigs and venues in the commercial real world - as with Essential etc they clearly can't. Interesting that BTC announced they were not putting on a 2014 Playground Festival to concentrate on the Brighton venue at a time when it seems they had probably already sold that venue. Yet were still selling annual memberships. Golden rule: Brighton is the playground of shysters who specialise in entertainment. Just ask the blokes on the (surviving) Pier. If a noise complaint story looks as bullshit at BTC's was, that's because it *is* bullshit. IMHO.

Positive. Ish Ali, ents officer at Sussex Uni Student Union set it up initially as part of the SU, then took it 'professional' when he left Uni.

He was banned from being a company director in 2000 due to financial mismanagment, and Essential closed in 2002.

There is a history in Brighton of people trying to take what worked on campus out into the real world and the wheels falling off. It's one of the reasons the city has such a churn rate of venues, festivals, etc, of which Blind Tiger/Playgroup is just one recent example...

And to add some balance Harvey Goldsmith is a former Sussex Uni student ents bod. He seemed to do alright. In fact quite a number of successful music promoters and managers cut their teeth in student unions. Are you therefore suggesting it's just Brighton which has an issue? And basing this on a couple of examples?
