Having 15 players lining up to take a goal kick is stupid. I’m no expert but even I can say that even a few dummies etc isn’t gonna fool the opponent.

Welbeck just isn't up to it. Now clearly he's a terrific footballer. Clearly he's terrific outside the box. But he absolutely isn't the player who can take our side forward.

He just doesn't make the sort of runs which are likely to result in goals. That kind of instinct, which Kane showed last week and Toney showed this week, the little bit of movement, the subtle flick, Welbeck doesn't and never will be able to do that

His career goals per game ratio isn't just bad luck. If he's lucky enough the ball drops to him, he's powder puff. No power in his shooting or heading.

I'm not pinning all of this on him, there are plenty of poor finishers in this side. But if you're the striker, and you're team aren't scoring and losing, sorry, you're going to get it

Dont know why but Trossard our one player that can lose a defender in box ,like Spurs game played most of game in mid field or out wide. Why.
For last half as Lamptey is a better attacker than March why didnt he come on.

Only you mate..
Agreed. I like Brentford being in the top flight with us. Generally classy manager, nice community club and a very exciting forward line up. If Toney doesn't get taken to the World Cup there's something wrong.

Easy to dislike them tonight though. Their gamesmanship did stink the place out. Worse still, the ref bought into it every single time.

Don't know what to say about that other than, whether RDZ becomes a brilliant manager for us in the long run or not, I'm more pissed off with GP leaving now than I was when it happened. f*** Chelsea and the PL

Edit: as useless as we were in the final third, that was absolutely ridiculous from Brentford

Joel Veltman: "We didn't play bad even though we lost 2-0. Details. Their keeper had an amazing day. Sometimes you have to accept that. They scored twice. That was the difference.

"We knew it would be a more fighting game than nice football here. We fought well. Our fighting spirit was there. We could do more with second balls.

"A draw [would have been] fair enough."

Roberto de Zerbi: "I think to win the game you have to score. We had 21 shots on the goal but we have not found the goals. We lost the second ball too many times.

"About the game I think we played a good game but if you want to win you have to score. I can't say anything more.

"We have had a lot of potential chances but many shots on the goal and we didn't find the goal. The time, the last pass, the crosses, we made mistakes."

On the importance of Brentford's penalty: "It was a crucial moment but I had belief until the end of the game because one goal could have opened the game again."

On his clash with Thomas Frank: "No problem [between us]. I don't like when the other coach touches my player and when another coach speaks with my player because I never spoke with the other player from the other team."

Roberto de Zerbi: "To win a game you have to score. We shot 21 times. We don't find the goals. We lose too many second balls, too many duels. After this I think we played a good game.

"The Brentford goalkeeper played very well. But we made mistakes about shooting, about the last pass, about crosses. But this is the right way for us, for our players. We have to do more. We have to improve, to learn, to understand."

On tributes to Enock Mwepu: "We wanted to win the game for him. We're sorry for this. We'll try to win the game against Nottingham on Tuesday."

Why do wesame as spurs try to walk a ball in2 the net passing through a crowded edge of the d? Get it wide feed welbeck and win 2nd balls. Simple but we over complicate it
Because to do anything else would be descending to the level of 'hoofball' - FFS get with the message!

Their plan was the same as Spurs. Go ahead then get men behind the ball because BHA won't break us down.

We had more clear cut chances tonight than against Spurs and a lot more possession.
But I agree their strategy was similar.
Their keeper made some superb saves, can’t remember Sanchez making a save ??
We needed to come out of the blocks quicker, think back to the Fulham game, Spurs game too. Both teams had the better early exchanges and both teams scored first
We struggle breaking teams down who score first, just look at the stats, how many games have we lost when we score first compared to us going behind?
Am I worried? No !!
We have a good set of players and a good young manager learning his craft in the Premier League.
Strap in, hold tight and enjoy the Brighton and Hove Albion Rollercoaster!!

Not really sure what all the negativity is about, aside from those with delusions of grandeur from the beginning of the season.

I was a huge Potter doubter for a long time. It took 3 seasons for him to convince me. We’ve lost him - how can anyone expect us to go and get a better (or even like for like) manager from the get go?

De Zerbi is playing the kind of football this team are used to and skilled at playing. I actually enjoyed the game hugely - seeing us basically on the ball for 90 minutes. I disagree that we’re slow. We zipped it around really quickly at times. Reminded me of life under Poyet - clearly superior to Brentford, but just wasn’t working for us today.

Our downfall is that to play like De Zerbi, Potter and Pep play, you have to have midfielders who can score. March, Lallana and Gross are not those kind of midfielders. At all. We need an upgrade.

Plus corners still continue to be my biggest frustration, a hangover from the Potter era. You can’t have as many corners as we do and do absolutely nothing with them. I don’t get excited at corners because I know it won’t result in anything of any worth.

On the plus side I am still encouraged. The team haven’t lost their identity - continuity is good. Caicedo is fantastic and means I don’t miss Bissouma at all. Onwards and upwards. Here’s hoping for De Zerbi’s first 3 points against Forest.
You say that about our midfielders, but considering not 1 striker has scored a goal for us this season and we have 14 in 9, our midfielders haven't done too bad a job...

Great post, though. Made me feel more positive 👍
