[Football] Brentford - Am I Unfair in finding them annoying even before they've kicked a ball?

I think we used to be everyone’s second team and wished us well in the premier league. Now everyone despises us. It’s Brentford’s turn now.

Actually i think it's the reverse. People absolutely despised us in Hughton's second season and the beginning of Potter's first. Now people really like us and the way we play.

I still like them. Always had fun visiting, and the fans are nice.

This - ditto
I like the club and fans , never found them big headed and it makes us seem a established club in the prem league which i am now getting bored of -- celebrating 1-1 draws

The media do like to have a favourite small team, for years it was "Plucky little Bournemouth", how well they do given the size of the ground, and the love in with Smug Eddie. The fact that they did have a bank roll behind them was conveniently forgotten. as it made the fairytale less appealing.

The other promoted teams have been here time and time again, and of the rest all except us and Burnley are seen as big clubs. We were never the media darlings, and Burnley are just unlikable.

So the media are stuck with Brentford for the "fairytale" its a small club, British Owned, etc

If they do moderately well, we will all be truly sick of the Brentford miracle, and if they get relegated by christmas it will be "poor Brentford, they gave their best"

It's the Premier League media cycle. They love promoted sides for a season but as soon as we/they stay up for a couple of years they're quickly very bored and tire of giving us/them any coverage and we just get in the way of their top 6 love in.

Listen to this weeks pathetic Football Weekly preview podcast for an example of this. They just cannot hide their total disinterest to the likes of us Burnley, Everton, Southampton etc. In fact, they openly talk about how boring we all are. Not as boring as I find their lame coverage.

Er... you what. How have you never told me about this before?

Have I not? It's not an overly exciting story but it's all I've got. Although I think she wanted me; I'm just playing it cool...

My housemate and a friend of ours came back from Camden one time claiming to have met her. Under interrogation it turns out that they walked past her in the high street and one of them slightly nodded at her.

Naturally they were ripped to shreds for being such pussies. Why didn't they talk to her. I definitely would have. But they continued to brag about their brush with beautiful stardom.

A couple of months later, on the afternoon of the Brentford game(Johnstones LDV Vans paintpot game), I was in a pub in Camden with one of the two and a third friend. As it happened we were talking about how we never see famous people and what we'd do if we saw one when who should walk past but the (presumable)muse for such legendary songs as 'You're my number one' and 'never had a dream come true' strolled past, cherubs throwing rose petals in her path while others strummed on miniature harps and lyres. I believe I heard the gentle refrain of ain't no party like a s club party wafting through the scented air...

My two friends were quite content to watch her drift past. I however, remembering how much I mocked my friend for doing nothing last time, urged them both to get out of their seats and go meet her. They looked at me like I was crazy but like Joan of Arc I'd received divine inspiration and was on a mission from God.

I stormed out of the pub in a blaze of glory, rushing to my destiny, my two friends trailing behind. I burst into the glorious autumnal air ready for all that would naturally follow.

Only to see her walk into a shoe shop. I can't lie this stumped me. It seemed quite rude to follow her in and start talking to her so we were left milling around the shoe shop entrance deciding whether to go back to the pub defeated or wait for her. Our dithering allowed her enough time to breeze out of the shop, cherubs, rose petals and all. Breezed right past us into another shop.

**** Sake. My friends at this point were keen to go back to the pub but I, like the Greeks at Troy, was not for retreating. When she came out of the second shop I pounced and with a toss of my mighty mane of hair, a lion, a king of all I surveyed, stopped her for a chat. While I charmed my way into her delectable heart, my friends skulked in a doorway, looking at their feet like naughty schoolboys.

She asked me out that evening* but I had tickets for the Albion against Brentford in a mighty cup competition so gallantly I had to turn her down.

We lost.

I say asked. It was more of an inferred look. I've always had a natural talent for reading body language.

I have huge admiration for Brentford and their achievement of promotion. They've overcome bigger clubs with bigger budgets and parachute payments, and all despite having lost Maupay, Watkins and Benrahma.

They have a positive manager, a new ground and they have a freshness about them. Out of all the other clubs that will finish in the bottom half of the table I hope they do the best.

I'm in a similar boat. I very much want them to stay up, as long as it doesn't threaten our own position. But for that reason I will mostly be hoping they lose. As the season rolls on, and assuming that we're clear of relegation, I'll start properly rooting for them.

I notice Glendenning was wheeling out his proposal to relegate any team that doesn't get 40 points for what seems like the millionth time. It's a reactionary and stupid idea Barry. It smacks of a bored aristocrat complaining that they tire of the entertainment on offer. Advocating for punishing victims of the league's massive inequalities, rather than suggesting methods for evening things up is a lazy complaint of an indulged cynic, paid to watch football, but complaining that not every match is a classic, never considering that his boredom might be because of his own complete lack of investment in the outcome of most matches.

It's crap isn't it?!

His 'analysis' is so flawed. In the same breath, he moans about state owned clubs and the obscene spending of the top sides but then slams the quality of the sides below the top 6. He's not informed or entertaining any more, just a miserable middle aged man who contributes nothing to that podcast now IMO.

Historically I've never had anything against Brentford personally, despite witnessing two absolute tonkings at Griffin Park during the Withdean Days, plus the defeat when Danny Holla scored. They were my Nan & Grandad's team also, so I should be pleased for them.

However, my Facebook feed is now littered with 'Bees' fans getting all excited, posting pictures of them in their first Brentford top, looking forward to their first season as a season ticket holder etc. All of whom have previously been spotted on my Facebook newsfeed sporting Spurs & Arsenal shirts up until midway through last season.

This to me makes them the new Reading, and as a result I hope they and their tinpot fans finish rock bottom and disappear whence they came.

Obviously, that's a top, top post.

None of us should like them. Last season we only had to find TWO teams worse than us to stay up. Sheffield United were completely out of the equation earlydoors. This season we have to find THREE teams worse than us. Big ask, based on the current level of transfer activity

Just another team who'll show us up while we lose 1-0, week in week out.

Is Glendenning the one with the supercilious sneering Irish accent?

Watch the Pundit narrative shift through the season... August/September : "refreshing, good to watch, brave, they'll be OK" , October/November : "sticking to their principles, courage" Christmas Onwards : "Naive, poor, can't defend like that, In trouble".

Much rather Plucky Little Brentford than Plucky Little Bournemouth. Brentford seem to me to be a smaller version of us. Owned by a boyhood fan who made his money in gambling (and Bloom's arch rival), and he has built the club properly: sustainable transfer policy and new ground.

Bournemouth got bought by another dodgy east European and jizzed money on expensive signings to get to the top while playing at their tired little shoe box. You wait, when he f**ks off, they'll have the begging buckets out again and ask other club's fans to chip in.

So in summary, this PLB is welcome - especially if they get results that help relegate Palace (or Leeds).

Relegation is defined by level of transfer activity ? Now there's some stats I'd like to see

I know a couple of their fans and whilst I like them outside of football, find them unbearable where Brentford are concerned.

Really hope they go down, and then down again.
