Can get pedal down, can't get into gear. Could be clutch/gearbox/anything I guess.

Probably hydraulic failure. If it’s an external slave cylinder not too bad, if it’s a concentric slave cylinder will probably mean a new clutch as it would have more than likely contaminated the clutch with fluid. If it’s a diesel then more than likely dual mass flywheel will need replacing as well which isn’t a cheap job at all.

Uncommon but not unheard of for it to be a clutch master cylinder.

Without wishing to scare the OP I just had a new clutch & flywheel( whatever that is) replaced setting me back £1,000

Flywheel goes between the engine and clutch, at that money is more than likely a dual mass flywheel. Basically it absorbs engine vibration so as not to damage the gearbox or engine and gives a more refined drive.

Money is one (big)thing but I'm more pissed off that I'm now on hols, with no motor, and no way to get home.

AA en route.

Good that you got in early in the day, probably be a really long wait with you near the car instead of enjoying yourself, if you’d left it until later. Bank Holiday weekend means the AA are likely to get very very busy as the day goes on. Look on the brightside!

No mechanic but it could be something like a clutch master or slave cylinder which on most cars is a bit faffy but not hugely expensive. No doubt someone who knows about these things will be along shortly

Hmm can’t help but think engineering will be up for a bit of decolonising in relatively short order, references to master cylinders and slave cylinders are going to be for the birds.

Keep us posted as we're all waiting to see what the outcome is.

Has a week in Penzance last year ourselves. If the weathers good it's great.

AA man has confirmed it's the clutch that has gone. He's now headed off to try and locate a local garage that might be able to help.

If he knows of a local branch of Mr.Clutch, they are a nationwide franchise, they are good value as clutches are just about all they do as the name implies. Granted, and as someone is bound to post,I've heard but not directly experienced varying reports of quality. They offer a 2 year guarantee as standard.

Fingers crossed. It seems you didn't have to wait too long for the AA and If the AA man is local he should be able to find you someone reliable. Any chance you could extend weekend by one day is needed ?

The one in Shoreham replaced an old VW Mk 11 Golf GTI clutch for me a few years ago. About £400, pattern parts. Kept the car for two further years, zero problems. Done very quickly too, don’t remember if I had to wait for the parts, which could be a problem for the OP

I believe one of the early quality problems stemmed from them using reconditioned parts hence the low price for the job. Nowadays they will source the parts from a motor factor such as Euro Car Parts and,as there are millions of Yaris's on the road the bits will be readily available . Euro Car Parts are just about everywhere too. Good luck with the repair and have a good break.

Has he OP got a Yaris? Not sure where if he's confirmed the model of his car.

Unbelievable...we’ve got this far in the thread and no ones mentioned “it’s a five minute job”...........yet.

On a serious note let’s hope the AA man can sort out a local garage at a good price

Mmmmm, I may have picked that detail up from one of the other replies perhaps? Nevertheless, unless he's driving a top marque or unusual vehicle then my reply stands. Perhaps we should ask him?

One of the reasons I hate staycations that involve lengthy drives , just too stressful and too much time for things to go wrong ! Plus the weather usually lets me down .

I’m all for staying local maybe 45 mins max then jump on a plane for hopefully a summer holiday in July .

Don’t hold your breath, the car is with the AA and the OP is down the pub or out with his family having fun, no longer logging onto NSC!

And you find getting to an airport, and checking in and juggage, and waiting, and getting trough the gate and waiting and then the reverse at the other end less stressful? You've obviously not had many delayed flights with kids!!

I have just heard the traffic news on the BBC, not a good day to be travelling. Jams on just about every motorway it seems.

Who’d have imagined it on a sunny Bank Holiday weekend with Covid restrictions after more than a year relaxed? :lolol:
