A brass band would be ace. I'd let a local school do it though.
Then a different band each home game including steel drums and the last game of the season we should have this bloke

Yes but we had a Brass Band for the first game at Withdean againsty Forest, and you couldn't hear them very well, it kind of got lost from the centre circle to the stands. Brass Bands , Christs Hosptial Coldstream Guards, are all very well, but the first GOSBTHS will be massive. To be honest I'd rather have it blasting out the the speakers so it makes your ears bleed. Can the band sound br fed into the speaker system?

Good call on CH as several ex Housy people post on NSC.

The only problem was last time they did this when the teams came out GOSBTS was drowned out by the noise of the crowd however maybe they could be connected to the speaker system at the Amex.

It never used to be a problem at Wembley. Hopefully the enclosed nature of the Amex will keep the noise in.

The Princess of Wales' Royal Regiment Kohima Band - the successor to the Royal Sussex Regiment.

With the history of 'Sussex by the Sea' this band is surely the most appropriate!

A brass band is a must.

A military band is preferred.

I would think either The Princess of Wales', Christ's, or Mid Sussex would do a decent job, but the real answer is to have a mass band, ala the military tatoos held at Earls Court and Edinburgh.

If that does not stir the loins of the Albion faithful, then I give up!

I think it would be nice for them to perform - but as HB&B says, they won't be loud enough so the tannoy music must stay.

If you couldn't hear them when they performed a few times at Withdean, what hope is there at The Amex?

Never mind Katherine Jenkins at the Wales rugby matches, this lady at Falmer is a must. That is unless Imogen Thomas is free!!!!!

This a silly arguement as the answer is used at every large scale stadium. Very simply microphones on stands or even on the instruments are used, and then fed through the PA system. I am sure that unlike at Withdean, the PA at Falmer will actually work, so problem solved. Next.

A real live band is a good idea played over PA system. Remember the glory years when we used to play "In the mood" by Glen Miller. That and GOSBS plus a few others like "going down the Shoreham Road, to see the Brighton Aces"would be great. Much better then the plastic anthms played at a lot of other grounds.

When we play Blackpool or Burnley, we should have this lot ... the Band of Lancashire's very own 14/20 Hussars. They have their very own words as well.

A very knowledgeable friend of mine says that The Royal Marines School of Music at Portsmouth and The Army School of Music at Kneller Hall in Twickenham are fantastic bands, made up of trainees but pretty much expert.

And with roughly 30-40 musicians and decent acoustics they wouldn't need miking up.

Were Lancashire men....no,no,no

This is so wrong not only do they think we got our County Championships by default, they are now pinching our song, letters to parliment must be written.

But the reason WHY the Lancs Hussars sing SBTS goes back to 1801, when the then 14th Light Dragoons were in Kent and their band were too drunk to go on parade. To help them out, the 35th (Royal Sussex) Regiment band took their place and ever since, their regimental march was played by 14th/20th Kings Hussars. After its publication in 1907, SBTS became the preferred march.

The Hussars' words relate to events from their regiment's history. Their last line: "You can tell them all that we know f*** all, Of Sussex by the Sea." suggests they probably didn't know that our anthem's composer was himself a Lancashire lad.

But don't they sing it incredibly well? If only our own fans could match that.

High up on the South Downs.
A brass band at the Goldstone was okay but surely not at Falmer,we are moving on and up.

Nonsense!
I am delighted that the Haywards Heath Brass Band are still around. Bring them back I say.

And have someone wearing a beret carrying a board around at half time.

Music after the game would be good as we wait for the trains - how about a jazz combo?

Not so long back there was a post on NST regarding the Christ's Hospital Band at the Lord Mayor's show. I think it was a BBC clip of the band.

They had a huge drum section which was something else and their rendition was the best I've heard. Made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.

If anyone could re-post it and send it to Ken Brown, it would be a no brainer for the opening game.
