Brighton - In your face
That's a very dramatic way of saying "two and a half years ago"

He was totally found out at Liverpool though. He's definitely top half championship level, and he had Buckley in his pocket last year at the Amex (although Buckley was having one of 'those' matches).

I'd rather we got someone else but he's no donkey at this level, that said, he's no Wayne Bridge either.

Indeed. At let's not forget, any other team's fans spending any time on here checking out whether they'd be getting a decent player in Barnes would think he's a donkey too. I rest may case; t'internet is populated mostly by idiots,

I'm assuming most fans only go to their own club's games and watch the rest on telly. Last season Brighton fans would have got to see an opposing player live a MAXIMUM of four times. That's no time at all to form an accurate opinion.

Left back is one of those positions that is very hard to assess on telly. The only left backs I've been impressed with on telly have been Roberto Carlos and Ashley Cole. It really isn't a good medium for assessing a technical position.

These threads make me laugh with the number of armchair 'experts' who suddenly know all about a reserve player from Swansea or Gijon or Dagenham and Redbridge. You can almost never* tell what a player will actually be like when they get here.

*except Billy Paynter - I knew he was two bob

Buckley has one of those matches every time he's up against a quality full back. That's why he's a Championship player still.

Do you mean Neil Taylor? Welsh lad.

VERY VERY highly rated but suffered a horrific injury at the beginning of the season.

They've got a player called Dwight Tiendalli who is a former team mate of Agustien both at Swansea and in Holland, He's my guess and it is guess work as I have absolutely no inside information at all.

Konchesky's a bit of a route one specialist, isn't he? I mean West Ham and Leicester? Classic long ball. Would have to be trained in the art of ten-yard passing, a la Upson.
Think he's solid at the back but not exactly the flairista dashing up the wing.
I'd much rather we went for an exciting full back...but, in retrospect, I'm sure he'd be fine.

Having just had a look at Swansea's squad, it is truly TERRIFYING to see the quality of their potential left backs. Assuming Angel Rangel could play there if neccessary they have:

Rangel
Ben Davies
Taylor
Tiendalli

Madness.

Upson was signed by Wenger and spent years playing at Arsenal. I'm not sure he needed much training to be fair

Let's not kid ourselves. Konchesky would be nothing short of a brilliant signing for us. A strong, reliable, proven, natural left back with a shit-ton of experience. What's not to like?

Palace and West Ham fans were laughing up their sleeves at us when we signed him, by most online opinion Upson was complete and utter bobbins. Seems to me a lot of folk take on board the first keyboard opinions they read, and then just run with it.
