I have an HTC Desire and i love it. With regards to battery life there are two simple solutions. Firstly, you need to know how your phone works and that means knowing how to tweak settings that won't fundamentally detract from functionality but won't use use up juice pointlessly. The jury is out in the Andriod community about whether Task Killers really work. Secondly, i simply carry a spare battery which comfortably fits in my wallet. If you are tech minded you can always Root your Android phone (equivalent to Jailbreaking an I Phone) but whilst there are significant improvements to be had you may risk buggering up your phone and of course invalidating your warranty. The degree of customisation on Android phones also makes the I phone look very inflexible and one dimensional.

If you are not so tech minded and want straight out of the box useability, and to be fair pretty slick design then maybe the I Phone is for you but nearly always at a premium cost.

The biggest paradox with all todays Smartphones is that the the battery technology has not kept up with their increased functionality.

I phone wins for me...>I know 4 people with the Galaxy S2 and they have all had to have them replaced plus they're cheaply made.

Everyone is raving about them at the moment, but I guarantee that in 2 years time, it will be outdated.

I still have my 3gs - best phone I've ever had and am going to upgrade to an Iphone 5 when it's released

The iPhone 4S is incredible. Couldn't imagine not having mine. The battery is fine and easily lasts all day, even if you are a heavy app user. You wont regret buying one.

Depends how much you have to spend, If its on a tight budget then stick to carrying around a second battery (Seems silly to me,You wouldn't tow another car would you, Just buy one thats works)

Anyway or you could make an investment and get a 4S I did and my god it is by far the greatest bit of kit I own or have even owned. It just works.

When I had my Android set up HD2 it was brilliant at times but often I was charging or deleting apps or it'd cut out through an app etc. The Iphone just works, It's smooth, easy to use, I use twitter, email, facebook, facebook messinger, skype, etc etc all with ease which it was abit cumbersom on my old phone.

It's your call but my vote would be Iphone, I doubt you'd regret it and if you do they hold there value very well so cash it in.

I have used both and am making a comparison from experience. Can you say the same?

Kind of. I have briefly looked down my nose at a Galaxy. It looked a bit cheap so I bought an iPhone.

I do find Apple denialists amusing. Why punish yourselves? Or is this the point?

What the f*** are you doing on it? I have a galaxy 2 and charge it every couple of days, I used to have an iphone and had to charge that EVERY day?

Not alot tbh, i check here from time to time, facebook and bbc news thats all i use it for. Its the Ace not 2 i think the 2 is a ugly phone tbh, i also been with Samsung for ages and feel its time for a change.

Also Iphone look like they crack alot i have seen tones of people with cracked screens.

Not sure yet might just buy a new battery to see if its this one that is the problem

Same dilemma for me.

I have been an HTC disciple for a number of years and currently have a Desire HD. I love the phone but am becoming increasingly DRAWN to the iphone.

Mrs Hiney got an ipad for Christmas and LOVES it so I am TORN between the HTC Sensation and the iphone 4S

Decisions, decisions

PS I do not know one single person who regrets buying an iPhone. It's the opposite in fact.

I hated mine I'm afraid, chose to get a galaxy instead. My iphone froze all the time, often the alarm did not go off (especially after the clocks changed), at times it used to go online on its own and sometimes you could not swipe the 'answer' bar across when someone was calling you, when it started doing that I decided to never own an iphone again.

I really like my iPhone 4S, doesn't mean it's perfect though - Battery life is pretty grim - If I'm at the rubgy or something where I'll be out for 12 hours, I do have to make sure I 'manage' the battery, switching off WiFi, not using it too much, that sort of thing. Siri is a bit of a gimmick.

You said it...Life is pretty grim if I'm at the rugby

This is one of my major concerns about potentially getting an iPhone (if I ever decided to stop being a cheapskate and splashed out on one). I have a Desire HD and while the battery life is DIRE I can at least carry around a spare battery (or two) to swap in as required. With an iPhone you either have to start cutting the 'smart' parts of the phone to prolong battery life or accept carrying around a (small plastic) brick for the last couple of hours of a day out.

The battery life on my iPad 2 is excellent, much better than the iPhone 4. I assume it is considerably bigger but it really lasts ages.

Okay. I've met you and you seem an honest person so I believe you. My scientific statistical survey is now 9-1.

Over priced pieces of crap, I went into the apple store today to buy a new Socket for charging my iPhone 4 from the mains. £26 for a little plastic socket some children in Asia built for about £2. Do one apple.
