Another vote for house of cards. I was 11 episodes in when the wife decided she wanted to watch it so I had to do the 11 again. She loved it so maybe it will suit you both

Got my wife "the affair" not expecting to enjoy it but it has proved to be very good so far. If you are in to a more macho series try Sons of anarchy which I loved. I also enjoyed lots of the other series mentioned on here.

I enjoyed Sons Of Anarchy myself. although the idea that you can wipe out half a dozen people in a drive by shooting in a town no bigger than Peacehaven and the old bill bearly bat an an eyelid was a bit puzzling
