Boxing day logistics are always challenging. Won't take the shine off for our group, can't wait.

Not sure why everyone is blaming Southern really - trains don't tend to run on boxing day around here, its well known. Why should they start for a football game? Brighton fans were happy to get to the PL and take the money it brings so you cannot moan about kick off changes for TV etc

Do bore off, there's a good chap. The Amex is uniquely situated and so good public transport was part of the conditions in order for us to have planning permission. Which league are Sunderland in again?

To be fair to Southern for once, last time we had a Boxing Day fixture at the Amex they did us proud with a ten minute shuttle service Brighton-Falmer-Lewes. Difference between last time and this time is kick-off time. Which lays the blame mainly at Sky's door. Still sceptical that there won't be an about-face re train service. If not, well, anybody who really wants to be there will still be there.

Out of interest, where is the nearest area/street you can park without parking restrictions?

I realise the use of the word nearest is relative, as its going to be a bit of a hike. Is Moulsecoomb okay to park in or are there restrictions there? Does anyone on NSC park for free in this area and walk in? Cheers

I'm not sure the club have any real choice at all when it comes to being selected for TV fixtures.

Surely the club and police can see occasions like this are totally impractical and therefore a non starter.

Surely the club and police can see occasions like this are totally impractical and therefore a non starter.

The club have had several fixtures at the Amex with either no or limited train travel (strikes) including one previous Boxing Day fixture. Its not ideal but the shuttle bus service, extra car parks, and park and ride that they lay on on these occasions ensure nearly everyone gets there in decent time. Its not impractical as a one off or chaos as some have described it. Expensive for the club and not something they want to do a lot of but its very very unlikely the ground will be half full etc.

Wild Park seems OK as Travellers are allowed so more matchday parking is taking place.

Supporters could park at The Sportsmen P & R and catch a bus to The Old Steine then 25 to The Amex takes time but not much walking.

Here, yes, but as I already posted in other Westernised Christian countries there's pretty much a full service. I lived in an apartment block in Sydney that had a perfect view of the local station, St Leonards. There were trains running regularly on Christmas Day never mind Boxing Day. In France the trains run to a weekday timetable on Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.

what happens abroad is neither here nor there. there is a tradition for broad observation of this public holiday in the UK, which apparently we are taking umbrage because it interferes with another tradition of football on Boxing day. how many of those western countries also do that?

Boxing Day is a full day of sport in Australia supported by public transport and including the start of the Sydney to Hobart race and a reasonably famous test match.

But running a full day of sport without providing public transport is typical, no to mention stupid, unjoined-up thinking that’s so annoying to members of the public. And it is worth drawing attention to what happens in other countries, so people can see the absurdity of it.
