Bournemouth are playing Real Madrid. Not exactly something that happens every year, is it? Regardless of whether it is a competitive game or not, the chance for Bournemouth fans to watch arguably the biggest club in European football come and play at their ground and be able to see players like Cristiano Ronaldo play live is a big deal for them. Yes, Bournemouth fans are being fleeced by the admission prices, but it's a story to tell their children/grandchildren about, the day that Madrid played at Dean Court. The gate receipts and other revenues Bournemouth make out of that match could be very helpful to them over the coming season.

Not only that but they will be able to watch the mighty blue and white stripes play at Dean Court at the end of November.

They won't even cover costs by all accounts. Maybe a slight profit but not enough to help them out financially.

14,000 at £60 is only like 28,000 at £30. Or, to put it another way, slightly better cash return than an average Amex game in terms of ticket sales. That is before you take into account Madrid's fee and demands. Leicester, I believe, said the cost was approaching £1m when they entertained Real last pre season.

The Bournemouth chairman recently said that if all tickets were sold Bournemouth would make a small profit. So, yes, Real Madrid cost a lot of dosh!

FDM wanted to play against Ajax for his testimonial. They agreed if all their expenses, including travel & hotel rooms, were paid by the Albion.
Foreign teams can cost a bomb.

How did you arrive at that figure?
Gate receipts used as a generic term to cover everything - match tickets + booze & food + corporates + local businesses with sponsorships/advertising.

Good on Tommy Elphick; hope he had a great day. Top man.
I'm sure those saying he's a League 1 player at best won't agree, but I think he'll have a great season this year. Absolutely nailed on to have a blinder against us.

At least we only lost 1-0 against them.

The sums changing hands won't even move the needle for Real Madrid. So they shake Bournemouth down for a million pounds -- that's like 1/10th or 1/20th of the transfer fee for a number three or four striker for them. Change from between the sofa cushions...
