In Hi-Fi circles Bose is a joke.

Modest quality at rip off prices - lifestyle products:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Earlier this year I did some internet research on it for my aged mother (who only buys stuff from the back of weekend magazines) and nearly all reviewers contended that the Creative jobby mentioned by Antikythera was much superior to the Bose and at a fraction of the price, though some had problems with radio reception on it.

Nope. The older Bose amps, with B&O speakers where the things to cream over. I often do still to this day. Awesome quality at all volume ranges. That's before they started advertising on the back of magazines though. Have to say that I'm not so impressed nowadays.

B&O eh - more lifestyle products. :rolleyes::rolleyes:
I dont know a single model thats collectible for its sonic virtues (unless its by the dustmen)

I bought one on their 30 day money back guarantee trial (yes, I am an old person!)

It was good but I didn't think it was any better than equipment I could buy in Currys for two third the price. So I sent it back and bought JVC.

And fair play to Bose, they did give me my money back

I've got some Bose speakers. They aren't bad.

I bought a set of 'Acoustimass' speakers, with the four cup-sized speakers and a sub-woofer. They pack out amazing volume, and have done well for me for years - including on my boat (only at dock, as they required regular house voltage to run them - but the size works for a small space like that).
I've never been totally over the moon with my more-recent Mordent-Short speakers, but they're a completely different animal from the Bose. I compared them against some Kefs which had superior 'imagery', but were a little too small for the 'Quad' system powering them - and I'd have to dig deep for a compatible set of Kefs for the system.
Quad make compatible speakers too, but these are both large in size and price - plus they probably would be best with the Quad amps, so if I changed amps I'd probably be committed to changing speakers at the same time.

I lean towards preference for a good pair of Kefs, expected in a mid-to-high priced range. No strange and new technology, because you generally pay high for a sound that won't be an improvement on normal speaker technology.
