[Help] Bosch dishwasher red light

Dear NSC font of all knowledge.

My Bosch dishwasher (5 years old) has just started flashing the red tap light,
Dr Google has helped me and and I have followed all the instructions about cleaning filters checking water flow and checking the pump impeller.
All are ok but the light is still flashing. Now it has stopped heating water..

I have read on t’net about draining water that may be trapped in a tray underneath but it’s not leaking so I can’t see that being a problem. Plus it’s integrated so will be a pain to pull out.

Dilemma…. Should I pay for a Bosch repair (£120 plus parts)
Buy a new one ? Bosch £570 Kenwood £250

Oh and I have turned it off and on several times.

Isn't there a local handyperson who will come round and fix it for significantly less than £120 plus parts?

This happened to me during last summer, not Bosch but whatever brand Howdens use. Local repair person wanted to charge £80 call out and from my description, flashing light, no water heating and everything still draining OK, reckoned it was a write off considering his costs and I'd be better off buying a new one. I pulled it out in anticipation of getting a new one fitted - it's integrated like yours - and decided to have a go at fixing it myself. Like washing machines they are quite simple and basic. Long story short, the bit that heats the water had stopped working. It was a small £20 part off ebay that from memory was a simple case of unscrewing the bottom, unscrewing the old heating thingy and screwing the new one in, no plumbing, ten mins on YouTube and a significant amount of swearing (I'm 6ft2 and my hands are not designed to manoeuvre in small spaces) and I fixed it. Works like a treat still, just need to work out how to get anyone else in the family to put their dishes in it.

Have since fixed a leaking water inlet on the washing machine for about a fiver too. That was a blimmin nightmare for reasons too dull to articulate. All of which is a long way of saying, I'm comically incapable when it comes to practical things and DIY but managed it so if you're taking out of the integrated unit anyway it might be worth a go.

Pay for the Bosch specialist repair, we’ve done that with our d/w. Still going years later.

I think you have to commit to a Domestic & General contract (monthly DD). I’m normally against those type of insurance policies, but with moving parts so prone to faults, it is ‘reassuring’.

This, and the previous quote about Bosch being decent and it may only be something simple... Get it looked at by an expert who is a Bosch expert. Pay cheap, pay twice.

You've also got the reassurance that you're dealing with the manufacturer, and should anything go tits up relating to this - you have decent comeback. Try hassling Colin's Home Appliance Repairs if it goes wrong again and getting anything out of him...

Learnt that very expensive lesson with a particular car repair years back!

Often with big brand service you pay a premium but get a full years warranty on any other issues.

We have all our white appliances insured with D&G
Few years back out American fridge stopped making ice - D&G man came to look and couldn't repair and as their policy is can't repair will replace with new - we were given a new one!
D&G were very fair and the monthly premium is about a fiver.

I think a Miele or AEG tumble-dryer that beat the engineer here, “beyond economic repair”.

Without me requesting it at all, they refunded all past premiums, as a matter of course.

Just looking at possible replacements while I'm waiting for the repairers to get back to me.

What is the difference between energy rating C and D?

I cannot find any details of what the bands actually are, I obviously know the earlier in the alphabet the better but trying to calculate the cost benefit between C and D based on my usage is currently impossible.

Bosch are a good make , it might well be something minor.

No they are not. I had a Beko for years and when it finally ran out of steam Mrs WS persuaded me to get a Bosch. It lasted a smidge over 3 years. So I returned to Beko and it's seven years and still going strong ( and half the price of a Bosch ).

The Bosch has a rather flimsy combined pump and water heater that dies under minimal linescale.
Quick job with part I'll post contact for guys who sorted mine if I find it.
Obviously you can get warranty repair though they'll grumble you haven't kept to the maintenance schedule(that doesn't exist) to pretend it's not a known design defect.
I'll post link to a good independent repair of I can find it again.

I've got a Bosch and had something similar happen. Now I'm not taking the piss and know you've said you've turned on and off, BUT, I seem to remember leaving it off for a certain amount of time, can't remember if it was 30mins something, causes it to reset sensors / control board.
