As it stands our second place comes with a caveat that we've played a game more than Boro and Hull (although after Friday and yesterday's results we're too far clear of Hull for that to matter directly), so does anyone know when those two play their games in hand, and against whom, so we can see the table once and for all without caveats?

And just to clarify. Both those games should be 3 pointers against mid-table clubs with nothing to play for. If either Hull or Boro fail to get a win from those matches, neither will be promoted.

Looks like Reading at home for Boro on 12th April and Brentford at home for Hull on 26th. But effectively it's as much in our hands as Boro regardless of their result. Just a case of whether we potentially need a draw or a win on the final day if we match each other all the way until then.

Burnley v Middlesbrough on 19th April looks interesting. Trouble with so many games being played on different days is it must make the chances of being promoted on a day when your team isn't playing quite high.

The last game against you guys (Boro fan) looks like it may be very important with a win for either team very likely to enough for the winning team to gain promotion, we have another 5 games at home but the four away on current form don't look promising.

I was really hoping a draw would be enough for us both but unless Burnley completely come off the rails and hull continue their current form it isn't going to happen. If we did win our five at home that would mean 85 points even not taking any points from the four away games.....if this was the outcome and you don't get any points against us what's your likely points total guys ? ....good luck

Love to see burnley drop out and its just us two needing a draw to both seal promotion.
You remember that World Cup game Austria vs West Germany that both needed a draw to qualify and they played out a dour 0-0 totally fixed draw?
That'd be brilliant

If you look at the championship predictor on fishy you can estimate the final table.

Firstly - assume the following criteria for the top 6 for all remaining games:
- They draw with each other,
- They win all remaining home games against sides below 6th,
- They draw away with sides in the top 12
- They beat sides away in the bottom 12

In that case we end up with Hull and Burnley top on 91, Middlesborough third on 89 and Brighton fourth on 87.

Clearly it won't be like that - not least because it's unthinkable that no-one in the top 6 will lose another game. However this gives some measure of the difficulty of the run-in and games in hand for each team. It suggests our form needs to be relatively better than two of the other sides (currently Middlesborough and Hull have been on quite poor form). We might need to get an extra couple of wins where we might have drawn. Ion this basis a win against Burnley would almost do it!

This sort of calculation also suggests that the Middlesborough's goal against Hull wasn't as bad for us as a Hull goal might have been.

Doesn't matter as its in our hands - Hull can't go above us based on the game in hand, so it's how we do and how they do match by match. Boro can go above us - then depending on match by match results it could be a cup final at their place last game of the season. Too many games to go to know what will happen yet.

 That's that then, we don't need to worry about anything else, we can just relax and watch those games :)

For other teams this season, yes, but not for us, since we are last to play our penultimate game (Derby, 2nd May).

Well if we both do the job against Burnley, that could still happen.

The main problem with that method is that it ignores the fact that the clubs near the bottom are fighting for their lives, while those in mid table are thinking of their summer holidays.

I am confident we'll win 5 games from 8, to reach 86 points, but will need 1 more win from the other 3 games ( birmingham, burnley, middlesbrough ) to reach 89 points and promotion.

I'd take a draw in our next match ( v Burnley ) right now.
