Alright folks,
Coming down for the game on Saturday with a couple of other lads and staying over on the Saturday night. Anyone recommend any decent bars etc to visit in the city centre? We've got some digs near the station. Where is worth a visit and where should we avoid? We're all 30 something's smartly dressed and no trouble.

Looking forward to visiting the Anex for the 1st time, I've heard very good things and your apparently a friendly lot! We should bring a decent following given the distance, over 1,400 sold so far.

If you fancy a bit of culture ...and you leave pretty promptly there is an Opera/film at the Duke of Yorks kicking off at 5.55pm...good sound system at the cinema....................well you did say you are smartly dressed chaps

Glad you added the London Based bit because if you were coming from Boro I'd need to warn you about the beer prices. Over a fiver for a pint of Punk IPA in a couple of places in town now. I'd recommend a crawl from the station down Trafalgar St, through the North Laine area and in to the Lanes.

I have a soft spot for Boro fans I have to admit. Two seasons ago there were a lot of you on the train back to Brighton and some of the funniest banter I've ever heard, albeit at the expense of an unfortunate kid that wouldn't stop screaming. Last season you were properly noisy as well in a season that seemed atmosphere-less, despite being on a poor run. Hopefully we won't be so dreadful this time, it really was one of our most abject performances.

I've supported Brighton for 45 years and have lived up north and currently in London. Apart from certain places in the west end it's a bit of a myth that London boozers charge more than most places in the country south of say Cov. If a bog standard place is charging a fiver for a pint give it a wide steer. You could do worse than come out the station, go left down the hill starting at say the Lord nelson and pick up others on route around the north lanes etc. In theory you can't go wrong but a friend from Kent once told me he struggled to find many pubs! A bit of a dubious achievement. Relations cooled!

After the game get off at London Road which is the stop before Brighton. Two good pubs The Open House and the Signalman. Short walk South to Preston Circus to the very trendy Hare and Hounds and good Mexican food. Another short walk along London Road there is a new cocktail bar called the Shuffle. Carry on bottom of Trafalgar Street The Great Eastern, specialises in bourbons. The North Laine pub is in that area along with The Basketmakers. Or head up Trafalgar Street towards the station for the Nelson.

Also, what passes for "smartly dressed" in Boro will not guarantee success with women in Brighton. No one wears three star jumpers and sta prest kecks down here. Brighton birds prefer their men wearing. Loincloth, riding a unicycle and juggling whilst sporting a top hat.

If you need any pointers when coming up to the Riverside I'd say come out the ground, turn right at the 1st roundabout, follow the road along, join slip road and follow signs for M1 southbound! No Boro's not that bad, some great areas and countryside around the place and it's not a bad night out, people are very friendly.

North Laine starts immediately you turn left out of the station, and head down Trafalgar Street. The first pub you'll come to down there is The Prince Albert. There's an enormous mural of several died-before-their-time rock stars. And it's a decent pub.

They've stuck the North Laine wording in the middle of North Laine, which North Road pretty much is.

North Laine - as we know it (the original North Laine continues a little further north) - is bounded by Trafalgar Street to the north; Marlborough Place, Gloucester Place and George Place to the east, North Street to the south and Queens Road to the west.

I think the clue here might be in your username.

Following this advice would waste around 10-15 minutes valuable drinking time and take you away from where most of the good pubs are.

The I'd echo the advice saying to stick around North Laine - The Albert, North Laine, Basketmakers, Great Eastern, George, Office all good pubs with decent beer selections and other specialities.

I'd advise you have a burger at either Troll's Pantry (which is in the Hobgoblin pub - same area) or Burger Brothers which is a more take away type place. They are both spoken about as some of the best burgers in the UK.

Unfortunately, the club scene here has gone right downhill of late. You should avoid West Street nightclubs and unfortunately now the Seafront clubs have turned into chavfests as well. The Concorde 2 is normally a good bet but it's a garage night on Saturday which probably won't be up your street. The Green Door Store is always free to get in and open until 4 or 5 in the morning (it's right by the Station as well.)

Not in the early part of the evening it isn't. This Saturday 80's ska legends 'The Beat' are playing there.
