Not in principle , in practice the party leader has a huge bearing on the way people vote.

its a thing to say though oh we dont actually elect a prime minister in this country. in case you need a quick lesson on constitutional basics for some reason. everyone knows we do in reality though. now if he had added its a de facto situation where we do elect a prime misnister then hats off that makes for a more interesting discussion. otherwise its mind bogglingly tedious.

Floating voters probably do but people who take an interest in politics tend to vote for the party and their policies in my opinion. Sadly there are not enough people interested in politics these days so it probably is leader over party in most cases.

I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure you don't have to be an MP to be the leader of a political party and therefore you don't need to be an MP to be PM. Regardless, there's plenty of seats he'd win easily.

You definately have to be an MP to be PM or a minister. How could you have a PM that wasn't a member of Parliament? How would PM questions work if he wasnt a member of Parliament and therefore would not be allowed to sit in the chamber. Maybe he could answer them from the public gallery.

You definitely don't need to be an MP to be a minister.

Correct - Senior Minister of State (Faith and Communities), Department for Communities and Local Government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office – Rt Hon Baroness Warsi. A member of the Lords but not the Commons.
