Exactly.

Johnson always talks a good game, that's the easy part. His track record on delivery is what he will be judged on - and going by his costly foul-ups as Mayor of London, and as Foreign Minister, forgive me if I'm not swept up in a tidal wave of new-found optimism, hope and euphoria.

You have to remember that he's the absolute poster boy for absolutely everybody that's been taken in by the Murdoch press.

I can believe that you've probably lost interest in it now, but since you were so quick to use your moderator rights to happily update the title of someone else's thread with a leaving date the moment TM announced it, I just thought you would have taken responsibility for the outcome of your actions and ensure the thread title was changed each time the leaving date was changed

I've never thought of him in particularly high regard but he made an excellent speech to be fair.

All this optimism from Boris just sounds like the speech a non league manager gives to his team just before they turn out in an FA Cup away to a PL team, and promising the fans that they are going to turn over the PL giants, because to quote Corporal Jones they don't like it up em, then they come off the pitch happy that they've kept the defeat to single figures (9-0).

But the failure is never the manager's fault.

So no doubt the new buzz soundbite from #10 will be that realists and experts are anti the UK and need to be super optimistic.

I just hope #11 can win the Euro Millions lottery and few times on the bounce when its a £100m jackpot, as the country is going to need some money desperately

How did it differ from every other new PM speech you've ever seen?

Held my interest throughout even if my jaw was on the floor that he expects us to believe he can deliver so much. He is way more eloquent and interesting to listen to than any new PM’s I can remember recently.

Biggest fail was the threat to withhold the 39 billion if he didn’t get a deal, that ****s any chance of Europe being accommodating in his negotiations imo. A threat like that should have been a last resort not tossed in before he even starts.

I thought it was a great speech. Most optimistic I’ve heard a PM since Blair. If he achieves half of what he said he will have done very very well and still would have been much better than all PMs since Thatcher.
