This government rarely misses a chance to liberally sprinkle any unwanted message with xenophobia and nationalism, so i'm sure we'll be hearing more about a South African strain then the "Kent strain"

No, I don’t think so. There is nothing wrong with giving information about the source of a new strain. Accusation of nationalism etc sounds a little silly.

Nailed on he'll entirely focus on that. That we have discovered in the last few hours that this is the real enemy, that that has totally changed the Govts view on lockdown and that it is all South Africa's fault.

But flying indirect via Qatar or similar and into the UK means you can get around it and get in scot free.

People who were arriving from South Africa were also pretty much being waived through recently, just reminded to ensure they quarantine

Yes! Actually my post was not correct now. If you have been there within the last 10 days you arent allowed in. So self isolate, en route, via somewhere for 10 days seems to be the way in from SA now

They need to ban any incoming travel without a proper quarantine. And by that i mean two weeks in a warehouse at Heathrow.
I knew so many people that arrived back in to the UK in Lockdown MK1 without even a temperature check.

Or do what the likes of USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have done and ban entry for all non-residents and enforce quarantine for everyone else. That they haven’t done so is a disgrace.

That isn't strictly true. You can still get back in to the UK from South Africa now, via indirect flight routings.

There is a suggestion from Matt Hancock we may see further restrictions on indirect routings, and then any UK residents still there may have to be repatriated at some point, but we aren't there yet.

That's kinda what I said. And that was the case last week. But now if you have been in or transited SA in the last 10 days you will be refused entry.

Yet, once again he has played a blinder....

I would have liked to have heard him back the unions and call for schools to be shut. Instead he waffled about needing a National plan and avoided the interviewers very straight questions about whether schools should be closed tomorrow. I despair about the political choices we are offered and the cheerleaders for all inadequate options.
