We had a blocked drain at our old house which I managed to clear by sticking my gloved hand down and wiggling it about. The bad news was the fumes that came up the drain after the gunge dissipated made me throw up over the patio.

I remember my drains blocking on Christmas day of all days. There was no way I could afford a call out on that day (can you imagine the cost), so I borrowed some drain rods.

Just a few tips. If you have a large enough inspection chamber, then empty as much water/waste that has built up in the chamber first (I emptied in the road drains).

Then using the drain rods, making sure that none of the pipes/attachments come loose.

Once unblocked ( and believe me its so satisying), wash through with a hose.

Lastly, as these things can happen again I suggest obtaining some kind of insurance maybe directline.
