I haven't seen that quote. Can you provide a link to it please?

"Brighton have asked police to investigate whether there were monkey chants aimed at players during their game at Burnley last Saturday." It's the first line of the link provided on the first post of this thread.

So the story is, Brighton officials have gone to the press to say that they haven't heard any monkey noises but they think someone else might have? Doesn't sound much of a story so far.

The good news is, if it was in the second half and within range of the away end, the cameras opposite would be perfectly placed to see it. So it won't be difficult to prove; I have no idea why the Brighton officials haven't already looked at the tape produced the evidence at the same time as making the loud and public complaint. The person or persons will be identified (it's all season ticket holders in that stand) and will be banned for life, as all people convicted of football-related offences are at Burnley..

That's not it at all. The article says that two different callers rang TalkSport and Radio 5 Live to report the monkey chants. Don't you think that it's right that the allegations are followed up? Nor does the article say that Brighton officials have gone to the press, or made a 'loud and public complaint'. This is a newspaper report. It's more than likely that the paper has gone to the club and said 'What about these monkey chants that were mentioned to the radio shows then?' and the club's response was that they have sought the assistance of the police.

It was Albion supporters who reported it to the club "Brighton have now asked Sussex Police to liaise with their Lancashire counterparts over the alleged weekend abuse after being contacted by several of their travelling fans."

Reported in The Express and The Star

Ah, thanks. I suppose if several fans reported it it adds a bit more weight, can't imagine anyone being petty or stupid enough to create a conspiracy.

Ah. So not what you said.

That's what confused me.

If that's the case then at least I can stay away from there.

Maybe we all should. Imagine the impact if we had no fans whatsoever at Turf Moor next season. Hit their club in the pocket and it would make a remarkable statement that we, as BHAFC fans, will not tolerate racist and homophobic behaviour from their fans.

This may appear to be a bit of stirring but it's a genuine question.

Has anyone from Burnley FC come out and commented on this? You know, a simple Burnley FC do not condone the negative treatment directed towards Mr Bong during Saturdays game. Or a "We would like to reiterate the comments by the Kick It Out campaign that no player should ever be made to feel as though he or she cannot come forward with accusations of racial abuse where they perceive it to be the case"

I may well have missed it.

This is it in a nutshell.

They just don't get that fact that they have ****ed up. I always get edgy when black players are booed because its easy to disguise the monkey noises and I just don't feel comfortable with it, having lived through the 'bananas on the pitch' years. Not suggesting that this was the case at Burnley but continuing the abuse for 90 mins is well over the top, and considering the reason for the booing was a racial harassment case, is even more questionable. Idiots. ****ing idiots.

Agreed, thankfully so far no Brighton fan who was there has suggested they heard the chants, keep your fingers crossed 🤞

I thought it came from a call to talksport and a call to 606 - different people, both at the game, BHA fans and both said they heard the chants? I do think it could easily have been mixed up with boos. The bottom line is, JR shouldn't have made an antagonising statement after the 'not proven' verdict, using words that weren't the case at all. Whether he was racist or not he seems like a right BELL - but then, remember, he is from Burnley, a place where hundreds / thousands booed a player for speaking out about what he heard / thought he heard and a place where hundreds / thousands made homophobic remarks and songs on Saturday. The only place/club/person looking bad in all this is Burnley/Burnley / WBA (fans on social media)/ Jay Rodriguez - simple as that.

Second half so Bong would have been at the other end to BHA fans, therefore cannot really comment on whether it did or did not happen.

So lets nail this down. Scholes, amongst other things, has said:

"Gaetan Bong must be very careful because, after the independent commission, he thought it appropriate to then start criticising Jay Rodriguez publicly through a statement, which Brighton and Hove Albion astonishingly published on their website, so he set himself up nicely for that."

Bong's statement was:

"Mr Rodriguez’s actions during our game against West Bromwich Albion, followed by statements issued by him and on his behalf by his various PR and legal advisors, have resulted in my character being questioned and subsequently for a number of accusations to be directed at me. Please let me be clear: I know what I heard and I did not mishear. My conscience in raising the complaint is therefore entirely clear.

"This was my first such experience in more than three years in this country and I would never seek to bring a false charge against a fellow professional. Those who have accused me of doing that do not know me. Equally those who have expressed an opinion were not there on the pitch at the time and only Mr Rodriguez and I know exactly what was said and I stand by my original complaint.

I now wish to continue with my career, and won't be commenting further on this matter even if Mr Rodriguez chooses to issue any further statements."

That is Bong defending his position, which he is perfectly entitled to do following the Rodriguez statement, and (attempting) to draw a line under it - there is NO direct criticism of Rodriguez in that statement whatsoever.

I'm just shaking my head at this response from Burnley. It absolutely defies belief.

"He’s not the first away player to be booed at a football ground. Burnley players have received some horrendous abuse from Brighton fans on our trips down to the Amex, so I don’t see any difference.”

It's almost SO bad that it's funny.

Almost.

I think the most funny / concerning / bewildering thing about this article is that a Burnley fan pretty much defending racism (in not so many words) has the absolute brass-neck to accuse the CLUB (not fans) the CLUB, of a lack of class.

I almost want to cry, but I am not sure whether it's with laughter, depression or sheer out-and-out rage.

I would be surprised if the club have asked the Police to look into it if someone from the club, maybe Chris, heard it.
Either way what with the 'not proven' thing this is going to set up a tasty clash next season, it doesn't take much, but the Bong episode lit the touch paper, this has set the firework off, if monkey chants are proven and Burnley get in trouble, it will explode next season*
*If we stay up.

“Jay Rodriguez I know personally, I know him well. Sometimes when you know one side of an argument it’s too easy to take that side.

“I haven’t spoken to Jay for a long time, probably not since he left Burnley."

He left Burnley in 2012, so hasn't spoken to him in 6 years. Shouldn't that therefore be I used to know him.

Premeditated booing of Bong against Barton's deliberate stamp (IMHO) on Kayal creating a crowd reaction, no different

I don't know.

You do seem to have a bit of a problem down there with hearing things. It may be a strange form of tinnitus or just some folk like making things up.

I mean you have one chap on the other thread who posted yesterday that we were singing 'We are racist and we don't care'.

Yet I haven't seen this mentioned by anyone else anywhere. I wonder which tune that went with, and were there any cuckoo noises?
