Shite first half, much better second. Overall he's been much much better since his wobble. I prefer LR there overall but they're both decent players. Nobody showered themselves in glory first half tbf. He had a difficult job with Aluko etc today to also be fair.

My **** of the day award goes to the person about 8 rows back behind the goal in the North Stand who, at about 42 mins, shouted at the top of his voice 'Get Baldock off'.

I assume that was the same Baldock who scored one and made the other  :lolol:

Some guy near me first half was moaning that Baldock doesn't do enough, second half he was telling his mate Baldock is quality

I think Bong is doing very well and I have not seen a better left back this season. And that included the first half.

baldock was non existent against villa......yesterday he earned his money......his confidence will benefit from that performance...

I've got one right behind me in the ESL, block K. The only reason I've not told him what go is my son begged me not to make a scene.

It's relentless. Every time he gets the ball. And when Bong does make an occasional error, it's see etc.

Grrrrrrrr

Okay so I am going to go against most on this thread. I am not a 'Bong Basher' but have to say he has generally been poor this season. Before he got injured last year I thought he was immense but this season he is half the player he was. He looks devoid of confidence when on the ball and never closes his winger down but backs off which inevitably ends up with a cross into our box. Maybe he needs sometime out of the firing line! All I can say is the lad from West Brom can't be impressing too much in training not to be given a chance IMO.

You start by saying you're not a Bong basher, then go on to bash Bong - gently and in a considered way perhaps. Was the no. 24 he was up against not the Championship player of the month last month, so Bong did pretty well in containing his threat.

In my opinion Bruno & Knockaert had a shocker against Malone Bruno playing far too narrow at times Bong had a rough time against Odoi with very little cover from Murphy but hey we have the 3 points! :albion2:

Let's not confuse bashing and constructive criticism. In the last two games we have faced teams who came at us very strongly. In those games ( well 135 minutes) Bong had problems because
a) he could not/would not push forward
b) he was caught out numerous times by balls going past/over him ( especially yesterday first half)
c) he was playing against very good opposition.

Second half it was a completely different matter, the team pushed forward and he seemed to change completely. IMO opinion he is a better at attacking than a defending so when he started attacking it played to his strength not his weakness and once you do that your 'weakness' starts to diminish even more. Bruno, Dunk & Duffy are all better at defending because they read that side of the game better i.e. their anticipation to do defensive work.

I don't know what CH said/did (boot/hairdryer?) but he needs to do that more often.

I thought that Bong played Aluko well and my critisicm would be for Bruno who I thought played too far forward for too long thus allowing them too much room on their left side.

Murray said in his post match interview that CH didn't need to say much, the players were telling each other anyway. We've got a pretty unique bunch here at the moment.

The dull part of the south coast
Their number 24 was a real handful - excellent player. Bong, generally, handled him quite well. He has played well recently, I can't understand why so many are so keen to get on his back.

Sonio (sp?) Aluko. He was the player I most feared. He tore Huddersfield so many new ones that they poo through a colander. However, yesterday he was not the threat that I expected.

Spectators react when player does something well. It is not out of order for them to also react when opposite is concerned. Have to be realistic Bong was having a nightmare defending. His job is to stop wide players crossing and should think from Bongs side they found it very easy. Of course I hear players been shouted at but nothing out of order. If you think players here get hard time you should go to West Ham. On few times watching them I have never heard anything like it when player is having bad game including Zamora against us
