No everyone who needs marrow is on deaths door. Some people receive marrow as part of treatment for osteoporosis, anaemia etc.

I don't know if the system is still the same now but they had a scale of priority giving those with the most need the quickest turn around times and those who were not perhaps quite such a high priority a little longer.

My daughters donor was identified and pulled in for the final match testing the following day, my daughter took his marrow nine days after he was identified.

Nice to see a good news thread!

I've been on the Anthony Nolan Register since it started and early on I donated platelets for an operation.

A couple of weeks ago I came through as a good chance of a match for a bone marrow donation and am waiting for the results of blood tests.

It isn't a question of being a hero - there is nothing more important than the chance of helping save someones life and I wouldn't hesitate to do it. Things like this put life in perspective and it would be good to see if people from NSC were inspired to join the register asap.

Been on the list since early 90's from memory. The Anthony Nolan team came and screened our entire rugby club as one of the boys in the mini section had been diagnosed with Leukemia. I still think you are heroic for going through with it and it's very good to read about something that restores my faith in mankind.

The trouble is, the potential recipient is Simon Morgan.

Seriously though, good on you Cpt Morg.

I'd never heard about the Anthony Nolan trust until the news about those 4 boys from Bournemouth a couple of years ago. I tried to register then but was too old at the time by about 2 weeks! Still can't understand why you can only register if you're under 40 even though you could still donate bone marrow even when you're a lot older.

Good on yer Cap'n
