As mentioned ad finitum on here with every annual Harty BM thread, my mum (saxophonist) was on the same bill as Monkhouse, who was the headliner. Also on the bill, lower down, was an unknown comedian. BM found out this other comedian was going to tell the same gag as he was, stormed up to the guy and threatened to have him removed from from the show if he refused to leave the joke out of his act. Not always the TV nice guy his public image suggests.

Arguably a funnier joke than Monkhouse told in his entire career. Just kidding he was alright and I’m not sure he’d like to be remembered as a hero of grumpy old closet fash

Are you really serious Clamp? Jimmy Carr has said some absolutely shocking things about disadvantaged people.

Yes I’m serious. Funny bloke. One has to separate the subject from a joke about the subject. He was even funnier before he got into his glowing teeth and liquorice hair phase. Make a pornstar blush.

While I appreciate some people may get offended at some of his material, if you’re one I would avoid his live shows and stick to the excellent work he does on 8/10 Cats and Cats does Countdown.
