Bob Booker is taking flight after his own big match to make sure he gets to Albion’s League One opener at Crewe.

Booker marries former Southern FM breakfast show presenter Nicky Keig-Shevlin tomorrow.

He will be whisked north by helicopter by club director Derek Chapman the following morning to see Micky Adams’ Seagulls launch the new season.

Booker, Adams’ former assistant, had his wedding plans in place before his return to the club last month as reserve team coach following a spell scouting for his old club Sheffield United.

He said: “I am getting married on Friday at Haywards Heath registry office. It was all pre-planned when I was out of football so that I would be able to go to a game of some description.

“Unfortunately, we are away at Crewe. The manager suggested I could drive his car up but that would have been a bit of a push on Saturday morning, especially after my wedding night!

“We talked to Derek and he said I can come up by helicopter so I should get to the game in plenty of time.”

Chapman often pilots his own helicopter to Albion away games from his home in Falmer. There will not be room for Seagulls supporter Nicky but she does not mind having their wedding celebrations interrupted.

Booker said: “As the saying goes, football comes first. She understands that I want to be at the game. The manager said I can come and I want to be there. I am really pleased it has worked out.”

Booker took charge as a young Albion side lost 1-0 to Crowborough last night in the Roy Hayden Trophy.

Wes Tate got up to convert the 84th-minute winner from the penalty spot after being felled by Ollie Rowe.

Albion Reserves: Walker; Fogden, Cook, Rowe, Brencher, Royce, Wills, Louis, Compton, Gargan, Gatting. Unused subs: Ide, Upton, Brinkhurst

Why are the club paying for a RESERVE TEAM COACH to fly via helicopter from Haywards Heath to Crewe?

Have we really got that kind of money to throw away? In all fairness, he doesn't need to be there

The club are not paying - a director who would prob fly there anyway is taking him up - nothing to do with the club

"He will be whisked north by helicopter by club director Derek Chapman"

it doesn't say "He will be whisked north by helicopter by the club"

Reserve team coach is his job title - doesn't mean he won't be a first team coach as well.

Bob Booker can fly anywhere, the day he danced in a freddie mercury fancy dress and the championship trophy means he is alright by me

I believe she's actually a Spurs supporter.

And to answer Cereal Killer, she packed it in a few weeks ago having announced it sometime in about June, I think. Easy bit of news to miss, really. Is Southern FM still broadcasting?

Needs updating, obviously!!

Note Reynolds' caustic comments regarding Southern FM when he was commentating on the legends game at Harty's testamonial. :lolol:

Blimey - not much of a wedding night for dear Nicky then, what with football coming first and Bob coming in a helicopter.

Bob has got his priorities right , going to the game the day after his wedding. A celebration shag (with the new missus) after an Albion win will top off his day.
