But you are guilty of generalisations. Most people are aware that there are a number of intellectually challenged people on the far right, but to tarnish them all with the same brush is the same as some of the sweeping generalisations and stereotyping that is made of ethnic minorities.
I looked at their membership list (which I found easily by the way), which revealed a number of university educated people, doctors, teachers, solicitors etc. As to the proportion of professional people compared with the general membership I have no idea, but I do like reasoned and rational debate, even though people have views that are held passionately.

Cov, I don't write for Searchlight. I do my anti fascist stuff face to face (though I must stress with words rather than boots and I've always far preferred dialogue to violence, although occasionally there has been no option!) Harrington seems different in that he uses his brain a lot more than he used to, but ultimately it's still the same old same old, along with people like Palace's own far right Goth 'composer' Troy Southgate (another besmircher of Mr Belloc) of music projects like HERR/Current 93 etc. They flaunt their 'intellectualism' (not evident in Harrington's case, rather more in Southgate's) and in Southgate's case seek to build bridges with the Left....no thanks, apart from the dodgy right wing history he's Palace! Although it must be said that some of the music is interesting. So is some of Current 93/Death in June, fronted of course by former Crisis guitarist Doug Pierce (another one who like you crossed from Left to Right, although for different reasons)
The ' working class/middle class' thing has been around for years...that's why Red Action split from the SWP 'lollipop wavers' and formed AFA as you know, and why Class War started up. Personally I have always found the 'class' argument pretty irrelevant, I've encountered more middle class right wingers than lefties in my time, and more working class lefties than right wingers....but I do know what you mean about the patronising attitudes to young people that were around in the 70s and the special preserve of the SWP! Made me sick too. I just left the SWP. I didn't become a NAZI!
The BNP have a love-hate relationship with Redwatch. bad publicity but they like scaring lefties (the ones on the site who are scared are no threat to them, and the ones who are a threat aren't scared - so it's pointless really)
I do have to say that the politics threads on this board are far more interesting than the endless whinging about Adams/Knight/the team (we SHOULD all be on the same side there!!!!)
Oh, and Smelly is really under the thumb - apparently his wife RIPPED UP his passport to stop him going on an England away trip.........!!!!!

Anti Fascist Action were formed purely to take on the fascists at their own game and like any bullies the Fash wilted as soon as someone came back at them (the famous Waterloo decimation). Unfortunately AFA got obsessed with Irish republicanism and it all became an IRA v UDA battle as far I could tell.

A small proportion of our decent roads were partially funded with EU structrual funds. The motorway network was on the whole not - although this was the fault of the planning authorities as construction was delayed for so long funding wasn't available. Sounds familiar doesn't it....

The A1/N1 scheme was funded by the NI Roads Dept - with EU funding - and the Irish Exchequer - with none. The A4 dualling and A8 improvements are being funded identically. All are being funded for entirely selfish reasons - the A4 will provide better access to Donegal and the A8 provide better access from Larne port to Dublin.
EU funding for road projects is only available for "Euroroutes" in Ireland now - same as the UK.

Sinn Fein are trying to be lovely-dovey, accepting-to-all in the Republic now. Despite the fact that ten years ago they were screaming blue murder about the President going to a service in a Protestant church... Not sure of the specific area you're referring to there but I'd well believe it.
Sorry my mistake. I assumed as every single new road I've witnessed opened up on my 60-odd visits to the Republic in the last 15 years, had a sign up saying 'Funded by European Union', that they were, well, funded by the European Union.

There hasn't been a scheme since the early 2000s with EU funding - and it always stated "part-funded". The big signs since then have "Funded by the National Development Plan" on them. Same sign format, but no 12-stars and no EU mention. Any structural funding ceased in 2003, as in projects had to be completed by then - the NDP 99-06 itself received about 5% of its total funding from the EU, and NDP 07-13 has received a big fat zero.
Your STATS are compelling. All I know is that over the course of 5 years, the route from Dublin to Kilkenny and Waterford changed from a DONKEY TRACK, to a nice wide road with big 12-star signs every couple of miles.
