Seems to remember Clarkson saying that buying a boxster was the ultimate admission of failure. Everybody knows that you really wanted a 911 but couldn't afford it.

it's not often that i agree with Clarkson but this time i have to.

That rather depends on what you drive now doesn't it ? I remember Clarkson making some disparaging remarks about the Cayman too but now he thinks it's the dogs.

I've got a black 2.8 Z3 which is a lot of fun driving around Dubai.

Much more stylish than the Z4 IMHO.

What about the Toyota MR2 Roadster?

1.18.TOYOTA.MR2_ROADSTER.EJ51JYK.JPG

Thier all tarts cars, but I would steer clear of the Z3. My mates brother had a 01 (I think) plate and had all sorts of problems with it. Service/ repair bills were quite steep to. Someone at my work has a MR2, dont think she's ever had a problem with it. Toyotas are pretty reliable, and hold thier value well.

Got to be your decision at the end of the day

Absolute minimum of 12k for a half decent one up to 25k for a mint one. The MX5 is basically a modern day Elan without the bills I believe.

Try this website if you want to spend big bucks, some beautiful cars on there

Indeed but £9,500 for that Lotus with 40K miles on isn't bad. Lovely car :)

Only a 1.6L engine though. But for style, 10/10

Ive whittled the list down now...calmed down a little on price and now firmly have my sights on..........here goes!!!

An MG TF 1.8 (160 BHP)

Car Reviews: MG Rover TF 135 - The AA

Cheap to run, cheap on parts......fast, convertable which is what I wanted..........just got to watch out I dont get a peace of crap that keeps breaking down...but if I pick up a 2004...thats not old at all.

Bring on the test drive.

Again if anyone has one of these.......thoughts?

I've owned a Z3, a Boxster S, and a Z4. The Boxster S was the best HANDS-DOWN. Not even close. The Z's were great too, but the Boxster S was amazing to drive.

And I bought the Boxster S as I was told the 911 was too hard to drive (and my test drive proved that). The deal told me later that the Boxster series "saved Porsche" as the new 911's weren't up to scratch. That was back in 2001/2 though

Hold your horses there. I love the MG's. I think they are great and had one of 6 years BUT it is a nightmare getting parts due to the MG/Rover collapse they don't make them anymore. If a part goes wrong expect a 2-3 week delay and no transport waiting for the part. Also beware of their head gasket problems. Check out how many miles it has done and get a service history to see if the head gasket has gone. I reckon you should not be paying more than £ 4-5 k for this tops.

You will have to get used to people looking at you with pity in their eyes.
