I've been on a bit of a health kick recently and lost just over a stone. I'm 5ft 9 and now weigh 13st 2lb and this government approved calculator still classes me as overweight.

I can totally accept this as I intend to get down to about 12st which I feel would be perfect for my height, but then might even be a bit skinny. This bloody calculator would put me a 24.2 if I weighed 12st which is still borderline overweight! Its reckon ideal weight for me would be 11st, I'd sooner be the weight I am now than 11st!

What BMI are you and does that seem right to you? Also try buggering around with the info to work out what it reckons your ideal weight would be, does it seem far too light for you as well?

My BMI is 28.9 - overweight verging on obese (5" 11, 14st 13lbs)

I agree with you. I am in the gym 5 days a week, go on regular runs, play rugby and am a heck of a lot fitter than the vast majority of people my age. If I ever stopped exercising, I would have to serously watch my weight though!

I agree,

I have lost 3 stone since January. I'm 6ft 4 and weight 15 1/2 stone everyone says I look skinny and I have lost my entire beer belly. Yet the BMI calculator says I'm still well over weight.

To get to a BMI of 22 which is round about ideal I'd have to weight 13st and would like like a bean pole.

it doesnt take into account your lean body mass ie muscle.
im 6 ft 2 18 stone that would put me as obese but im not . yes im overweight but im strong and do heavy weight trianing 3 times a week. it doesnt take this into account. i think ideally i should be 16 maybe 15 stone. what you could do is get one of those skin nipper things that tells you your %bf and work on that although they are quite hard to read

1.86m and 75Kg...BMI of 21.6...pretty much slap bang in the middle of a healthy height to weight ratio...happy with that, despite the fact that I have been a bit lazy of late and could probably do with upping the amount of exercise I get.

I'm 14st 9 pounds and im 6ft4 and have been bulking up for sport reasons. I am happy with my physique and am far from fat in fact i am thinner than most people, just well built. I looked at some weight table and it told me i was obese and needed to loose 2 stone. If i loose 3 stone I will look like i have just come out of a concentration camp.

Technically I'm obese but even my doctor was stumped as I am just not that fat, I also have excellent blood pressure.

Funny enough I'm 5/9, last time I checked 13st, I certainly don't feel or look overweight, I often wonder if they take into heavy bones or in my case BIG Head or even my short legs compared to upper body! I'm sure if you have a Big head and big upper body you have to weigh more than somebody with longer legs!

I am around the same as you, Skint Gull. I am 5'10 and weigh 13st 4lb. I think I am overweight but that becuase I have very little muscle. If you have a decent amount of muscle then BMI is useless.

I'm 6ft tall and 15st 5lb - That's a BMI of 28 but I don't look like a massive lardarse. I used to be 17 stone and I was a bit wobbly then :p
