The one I was looking for was Oscar Wilde who supposedly wrote The Importance of being Earnest in Worthing.

But that’s not there.

I was going to post something about that. I saw it on the side of a big building on the front at Worthing - out towards or on the way to Lancing. Can’t remember exactly where. But it said “in a house near here”.........

Edit: Esplanade Court- as per this link

My first flat in London was on Avonmore Road, next to Olympia and the house next door had a blue plaque for being the home of the composer Elgar when he penned Nimrod.

Surely every blue plaque refers to someone born at least 50 years ago? In which case they were ALL racist filth and the plaques should be torn down and the houses torched?

There's a big blue plaque (not one of the round ones) for Gideon Mantell on Lewes High Street.

I lived around the corner from CB Fry's birthplace in Croydon a while back. For somebody who was later offered the crown of Albania it's surprisingly modest. Might have seemed more impressive if it wasn't in Croydon.

Sculptor, calligrapher and man of unusual sexual appetite Eric Gill lived down my street. Dogs still cross the road rather than walk past his house.
