My son had an accident this morning, i was cooking beans on toast, and he picked the tin of beans of the side and it slipped through his hands and landed on his toe. He had a very nasty injury, it split the toe nail in half and its also gone into his flesh, he didnt need stitches thankfully but he has a huge bandage on, he cant walk for a few weeks and cant get it wet, so of nursery next week.

I called a paramedic out and he felt it was not bad enough to go to hospital but wanted me to get an emergency appointment at the Dr surgery so stayed her while i got that sorted, had one pretty much instant, so went up there and they said they couldnt treat it as they felt it was to damaged so to go to A&E they were brilliant up there i have to say they were so good with the boy.

I think i cried more than what he did, he is at home now with his mum now.

I swear the amount of blood was unreal, i never spoke to my neighbours before but they were brilliant.

Sorry to hear about the lad, hope he will be ok. Be careful not to start another NHS binfest though!

they dont think the toe nail will ever grow, but and might need to see a plastic surgeon depending on how it heels, need to go back in 5 days.

I'd question that if i were you.

I snapped a fingernail in half once and was given the choice of having it removed and it will grow back or leaving it and it may not.

I had it removed, possibly the most painful thing ever to happen, even with all the local anasthetic, but it grew back fine.

Make sure it doesn't get infected, few years ago in a wave machine in Florida, I got thrown back, and half my toe-nail got ripped off, and the wonderful yanks put a plaster on it, and said that will do, anyway long story short, 2 weeks later I went to doctors in England cause it was causing me A load of pain, and he said my toe was so badly infected, it wad about 3 or 4 days away from my whole nail removed

Is it split top to bottom or across?

Mine was across and they removed the top part then the bottom part, rather like opening a can of sardines and it grew back fine.

Be ready for shit loads of pain though, they don't use it as torture for no reason, even with the anasthetic.

down the middle, they called it a crush injury.

Yeah i did cry more than him, due to my mental break down i have only about the past 4months being allowed to have him over night on my own, so for this to happen just cut me up as i thought he Mum would blame me, but she was really nice gave me a hug and said its an accident and these things happen.

By the time i called the ambulance and called her she was here 2 mins after the ambulance arrived.

Still worth a second opinion i would have thought.

And kids will always damage themselves, it's part of their job description, just think back to how many nightmares you gave you parents.
